new to the site
« on: Sat, 13 September 2014, 22:59:56 »
Greetings,

I recently purchased a realforce 87u silent (black) and found this site just looking for key cap ideas. I found myself reading though all 103 pages of the "Post your Topre Keyboard" thread, so decided to finally make a post.

I am looking for new color ideas for my RF and am already looking into getting a second Topre keyboard (HHKB 2) I hope to get more involved on this site as I have already swallowed the red pill!!

Welcome! You can find colored sets on ebay or buy the opposite color board. :)

Thank you! That's exactly what I was thinking. I was going to purchase the white key caps listed on eBay but for the $150 price, I am better off getting an additional white RF and at least have the grey keys for additional contrast. I love the RF but the black keys are just too dark for my taste.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Buy the keycaps while you can - most indications are that they are not being made any more, and the few sets you can find for sale now are just old stock from a factory somewhere.

I hope I am wrong.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

That seems to be the consensus from what I've read. Which ones would you suggest to pick up that are the most rare? I am watching the ones list on eBay now but have not pulled the trigger on any, yet...

Any.  There are like only about 5 colours anyway.

The colored blanks are most rare, then the colored lettered.
