Keycool 87 only works in bios
« on: Sun, 12 October 2014, 12:39:28 »
My keycool 87 is plugged into my computer via PS/2 (my usb cable is broken) and for some reason the keyboard only works in the BIOS.
I'm running windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 dual boot and it wont work in either. I dont have another PC to try it out on. This is literally my only keyboard.
I used the on screen keyboard to type this  :(

I don't understand this part:

Can't you remove the ps/2 adapter and plug directly into a USB port?

If that doesn't work, can't you use a cell-phone USB cable instead, from your keyboard (yours has detachable cable, right?) just to see if the keboard is fine?

Is there a BIOS option in your motherboard to enable/disable PS/2 ports?

Cheers

or maybe there are dip switches on the keyboard itself. check the manual of the keyboard.

I ended up with a qfr, otherwise i'd probably have a keycool87 right now, too.

Silly question - are the PS/2 ports enabled in the BIOS?  Some mobos offer the option to disable them.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I restarted my computer about 10 times and it randomly started working. Not sure what was up with that.

Oh and keyhopper, the keycool 87 has a removable cable. it came with a USB cable and a PS/2 cable in the box. the USB one is broken so I have to use the PS2 one. Im not using any sort of adapter.
