KBT Pure Pro Firmware problem
« on: Sat, 01 November 2014, 08:10:05 »
Good day dear geekhack community. Let me tell you my story of owning a KBT (now they are called Vortex, idk why) Pure Pro Mechanical Keyboard. I've bought it last October and everything was just perfect, honestly couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago I woke up and the keyboard just stopped working. The Capslock LED was turned on and that's it, no key response no nothing. In attempts to find a solution to the problem I was always entering this forum and a couple others. I've also came across this video:
which suggested to reflash the firmware on the keyboard. I did it and omg it worked. However, some buttons were not working and some were swapped with others, this wasn't a problem I just used some key remapping software + the built it programming capabilities of the keyboard. I really thought the problem is solved. Oh and by the way with the new software I couldn't use the keyboard with a USB hub which I did before. Ok I could live without a hub and with some remapping software running at all times, but today I woke up to find out that the keyboard is pretty much not functional again. It turns on for a minute or so and then just freezes, I cannot even reflash the firmware again because my computer just won't acknowledge its existence... I've tried to contact Vortex on Facebook but no reply yet... Maybe someone has a clue on what might have gone wrong? It would be a shame to loose a 140$ Keyboard because of some 0.05$ chip malfunction inside =((((((

That really sucks and sorry that I'm not really able to help with the problem but I was wondering about the remapping you mention. Were you able to remap even the keys that stopped working completely? Seems like an ANSI/ISO difference in the firmware from the pic you posted on Vortex Facebook that I saw earlier...

Hey, thanks for the reply. Well although the PC didn't register those keys inside the OS I was still able to remap them on the keyboard itself. Fn+RCtrl then pressed on the backslash button and then mapped it to some key I didn't use, like Capslock. Then inside the os i remaped Capslock to backslash. Quite a weird work around  ;D I still hope for Vortex to answer me, maybe they will send the correct firmware or something. In that case I will upload it here for other people.

If nothing works out I will buy a Teensy 2.0 and I will try to program it to replace the original microcontroller.
