Noppoo choc mini or keycool 84
« on: Sun, 09 November 2014, 11:42:44 »
I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and I'm strongly leaning toward a noppoo choc mini or keycool 84. I'd considered the shine zero TKL and KBP v80, but think I like the smaller layout better.

I'm having a hard time finding a good place to buy either of these. I'd like a board with MX reds and backlighting if possible.

An amazon seller has the keycool 84 which looks exactly like what I want, but they are claiming these boards use genuine cherry mx switches which causes me pause seeing as how all the other backlit 84s appear to use kailh switches.

Again? There's a ton of questions about these particular two keyboards. Anyway, welcome to GH and good luck with finding a good keyboard like this.

Sounds like irony? Well, both keyboards are basically discontinued nowadays AFAIK. Keycool have switched to Kailh for sure, perhaps you can find old stock with Cherry MX. Meanwhile, Noppoo Choc Mini appears on Massdrop every now and then, but the manufacturer is replacing it by a smaller keyboard with "standard" layout and interesting features... without dedicated arrow keys and nav column though. Maybe you could find some version of Race somewhere.
