How to set up Backspace for HHKB Pro2
« on: Sat, 01 November 2014, 11:26:17 »
Hi, I just got a HHKB Pro2, the typing experience is great, however I don't know how to get the backspacen key to work. I basically set my keyboard to Lite mode, as I am a Windows user (SW1=OFF and SW2=ON) to gain much of the functionalities as stated in the 3rd table in
https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=pfu_keyboards,hhkbpro2&pid=pdkb400b
but no matter I set SW3=ON or OFF, I have to press Fn+Delete to make it funtion like Backspace on a regular windows keyboard. Does anyone know how to set up Backspace properly on Pro2 for Windows?

cheers

Did you unplug the board when setting the DIP switches?

you must disconnect the USB cable from the HHKB in order for the DIP switch changes to take effect.

Thank you guys, it is working now. I am also wondering the key pressure for Pro2 is 45g or 55g, as I see it is stated as 45g on the official website:

It's 45g.  I know on Realforce keyboards there's a possible variance of +/- 15g per switch but I don't know if that applies to the HHKB too.

Also, the HHKB gives the illusion of a bit more resistance because of the plastic mounting of the switches, whereas on the RF the switches are mounted to a metal plate. The plastic gives a tiny bit which essentially adds to the resistance of the switch, if that makes any sense. On the RF the plates have virtually no give, so it makes the 45g feel a lot lighter.

I have a Realforce 87UB as well, but to be honest, the typing experience is slightly better on HHKB than RF, just slightly. Maybe it is because the key feedback. Now, I do feel a bit lighter (noticeable) when typing on the main area (white paint keys) than the grey keys, e.g. Delete or Return keys on HHKB. I don't know why is that.
