Should I sell my keyboard?
« on: Thu, 04 September 2014, 14:23:40 »
I have the keyboard in my signature.

I mostly use my iPad and sometimes my laptop, so my Realforce keyboard doesn't get much use. Should I sell it? Or keep it? It is hard to say cause I might not use a desktop computer in a while and just having the keyboard sit in the drawer does't make sense when it is a $200 keyboard.

It depends on whether or not you like it.

If you bought the keyboard and love the way it feels, then personally I would keep it. There will be situations where you need to use a keyboard, and when you do, you have a very nice one that you can use. I do not think it is a waste because it will last you ages if you use it that rarely.

I could not imagine not needing to use a keyboard on a daily basis. I spend tons of time behind the PC at work and quite a bit of time at home as well.

I've had this though about many things I've bought since coming here. A lot of the more 'valuable' things I have already sold but I have entirely too many keyboards, keycaps etc that I'll never use. Should I sell them? Yes. Will I sell them? Not yet because I always tell myself , 'one day' I'll do something with it.

@OP: you shoudl keep it and then buy another one. It's the GH way!

In all honesty, if you plan on getting a desktop, or plugging it in for use with your laptop then you should keep it. I use a keyboard on my laptop all the time and it's great. If you aren't going to use it, then you should sell it to someone who will. That's my advice.

PBT keys make it better than a Novatouch

ABS spacebar though.

If I had a novatouch, I'd put all PBT on it.

Should I sell my RF? I have a RF that I use, and another that sits in a box under a desk. Why is it there?

Only sell it if you're down and out!

Also 55g real force is a nice commodity for trading :D

Sell it, unless you plan to use it heavily in the future. Considering the new Topre keyboards (CM Storm, Leopold, Type Heaven), I think realforces will drop in value soon. Except for collectors, of course, but who knows what will the future bring? (Yeah, politics.)

To be honest, no. One of my biggest regrets was selling my HHKB Pro 2, I did sell it for a good reason (similarly the same reason of you, with a few minor differences), but in retrospect I should have kept it, gotten used to it and used it more, they are simply amazing boards to type on.

If you think you can live without it and it will not get any use in the future, then yes sell it, but personally, I wouldn't.

So that if anything happens to your primary, you'll have no downtime.

Honestly, I think some of us put crack addicts to shame for lack of commitment.

A brave decision!

GLWS
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yes, sell it and buy a Novatouch and some good keycaps (like Leopold PBT, something from GMK or a contoured SA set for instance). Then buy me a beer later for giving you such awesome advice.  ;)
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I have unused keyboards sat in their retail boxes. Never sell your keyboards. Everytime one goes in the marketplace a kitten is killed, so you remember that.
I got boards.
