Anyone used the Matias Quiet Pro before?
« on: Mon, 10 November 2014, 08:55:23 »
I'm really digging the retro vibe of the Matias Mini Quiet Pro and would really like a more quiet keyboard to possibly use in public. But I have a few concerns.

http://matias.ca/miniquietpro/pc/

1) It might be too large to use in public
2) This would be my second keyboard, and I don't know if its worth it to have more than one (maybe someone could convince me otherwise)
3) I don't know the build quality of Matias boards or switches

Has anyone done a review or has used this or other Matias boards before? If anyone could tell me their personal experiences or link some pictures that would be great.

If not the Matias board, what small and quiet board/switch would be good for public use?

HHKB Type-S if you have the money to spend.

I have 2 of the Secure Pro's which are the same except wireless and they are great. I don't really have any complaints about it other then the wireless seems to be really short range if it is obstructed by anything (like my desk). I use one at work and with no obstructions to the dongle and it works from a pretty good distance away.

If you want to know how quiet it is that is hard to describe but it is very quiet. It is even more quiet then the Cherry browns that I have.

I'd recommend this: http://matias.ca/60/pc/

Even smaller than the Quiet Pro Mini.  For just a little more $ than the HHKB Type S you can have an aluminum case with it as well.

I've used Noppoo Choc Mini (stock thick POM keycaps, Cherry MX Red switches) to take notes or code in classes; it fit perfectly on the top of my 16:10 X-series thinkpad. Later replaced it by ErgoDox with MX Clear (now vintage MX Black) switches. Never heard any complaints, although stock MX switches are basically always a bit louder than Matias Quiet "Alps", when you release them.

When the Matias compact keyboards were released, some people weren't too happy with case quality.

I'd like this but I don't want to wait that long...

I've had my Matias mini since they were first released. The build and switch quality is excellent.
My only complaint is the color (all-black is not my thing).

I once placed a Matias pre-order... It took forever but worth the wait.

The quiet switches are no problem in working environments.
