Gateron switch problems
« on: Mon, 07 March 2016, 20:39:37 »
So I have keyboard with gateron red switches, and some of the keys have key chatter, alternatively the key might activate depending on where I press on the keycap.

There was a link here with an imageur gallery of someone investigating this problem with gateron switches and a fix for it. Did anyone here have it saved?

So after a bit of research:

I'm using black POM cherry keycaps + 1.5mm O-Rings. Turns out that only leaves ~2mm of movement during the keypress.

Gateron specs says acutation point is 2+-0.5mm. That makes it barely enough for some of the switches.

Now I'm stuck manually bending parts of the leaf for each switch to decrease the acutation point. The results are wonderful, super responsive keys that activate at ~1mm press. Downside is that it takes a lot of time to do this for each switch. Good thing this is just a TKL and not a full KB

Glad you were able to figure out the reason and rectify it. This should be good info for others in the future. :)
