Razer BW 2014 key fixing
« on: Wed, 25 February 2015, 14:27:05 »
Hello. I have Razer BW 2014 Ultimate and I was a happy user of it. However, today I've decided to change my space key switch from Kailh to Cherry MX Green. I have successfully changed it, but when I started to test keys, it turns out that "s", "window" and ";" are not working. I think that I burned  some PCB element or maybe damaged the trace (but I cant figure out how did I manage to do it) during the soldering. I noticed on the PCB that keys didn't have trace which connect them with other keys' pins. Can I remove the trace protector and just directly connect the pins?

Also I've tried to solder the pins of the broken key with the M3 key pins, but after it when I press M3 key some other keys are activating.

Maybe someone has the photo of the front of PCB, can you share it? I want to see the elements that placed on it.

P.S. Key switches are working, I tested it with continuity checker.
P.S.S. Sorry for my English.

It sounds strange, I can't imagine how three keys can stop working after soldering one switch.

Did you use an soldering iron or a hot air soldering station?

Can you post pics of the PCB there?

If the PCB is multilayer, heat might have been communicated between different parts of it, and those keys now make poor contact.

My best suggestion is to try to add solder to the terminals of the switches that are not working, or de-solder them and resolder them.

If you already fixed it, tell us what it was!!!

Cheers!

Sounds like you've lifted a pad.  If you can see the trace that connects space and the other broken keys all you need to do (assuming space still works) is solder a wire to replace the trace.  If you can get a good picture someone should be able to advise which two points to connect :)

Possibilities:

1. Non-compatible replacement (unlikely)
2. Damaged diode
3. Solder short

I'm not sure what the matrix is on the the Razer boards, I have little personal experience with them.  Are the traces for the affected keys connected?  A picture would be useful to diagnose what is going on.
