does the sleep watcher thing switch layouts based on the controller in each keyboard?
Does it work if you just pull one out and stick another in.

To answer the 2nd part of this question, no it doesn't work if you just pull out one keyboard and plug in another. Sleepwatcher just gives you a hook on sleep/wake. If anybody could tell me how I can run a script on a usb plug event on the mac I'd be ecstatic.

That said, you can also just execute the .wakeup script by hand and it'll do the correct remapping.

Billm, KeyRemap4macbook is the best remapper for Mac I have ever used. There are so many options, but I only use one.

This puts command & option in the correct places on both the left and right side of the space bar.

If I have the time and knowledge, I will convert an IBM ThinkPad 600E keyboard into a desktop keyboard. Even better, a wireless one.
