Fujitsu FKB4725 - Peerless: Dug up from the grave
« on: Mon, 15 December 2014, 21:00:30 »
Dug up this old dog after what must have been a rough time in a nasty environment. Not sure on the date but I'd say early to mid 90s as it has the Windows key but strangely still a DIN5 connector.

Hadn't heard of the switch type referred to as "peerless". It's effectively a spring on top of a small rubber dome. When you press the key, the spring compresses and eventually the dome underneath it collapses.

It feels somewhat similar to a buckling spring, only quieter, lighter, and less tactile (and more mushy).

I might test it and clean it up a bit. It actually doesn't feel too bad to type on, although I think it could use some grease on the stems.

One thing I've noticed is that it seems a few of the domes are not popping back up properly. A few of the keys are pure mush to press... not sure if or how that can be resolved. I'm curious how a new one of these boards would feel.

Anyways, I don't see much posted about these so I thought I would add my record of it here. I'll post back if I end up cleaning it up thoroughly and giving it a whirl.
