KBParadise V80 - high pitched noise
« on: Wed, 17 December 2014, 01:53:12 »
Hi all,

New here. I've just received my new KBParadise V80 from MechanicalKeyboards.com. There seems to be a high-pitched sound coming from the board when either or both LEDs are on. A friend mentioned that the PWM frequency is in the audible range. Does anyone have experience with support from either MechanicalKeyboards.com for exchanges or KBParadise?

It seems like KBParadise doesn't have representation in the US so I've only contacted MechanicalKeyboards for now. I would be extremely cautious of ordering the V80 right now. I saw another person post about this on Reddit -- I don't think this issue is a fluke. It might be a greater design flaw...

btw I'm pretty new to mechs. First mech was a Rosewill RK9000 with blues. This V80 has clears. I might consider a KB with matias quiet or topre next!

Thanks!

Perry

edit: Thanks to KBParadise -- they emailed me and wanted to let everyone know that this issue has been fixed. Here is their email.

We test couple weeks ago in office , some staff can feel it , some staff not feel it obviously.
After engineer testing , we decide to change some compent. So no one hear the sound anymore.

There are only around 50pcs not change compent.

Cause we suppose other customer may also complain this when they see it on GH. We have less staff heabdle one by one.
We decide to send some double shot keycap to http://www.mechanicalkeyboards.com/
directly . And let them send the keycap to you. I'll pass your mail to them.
Keycap will send together with next vessel to USA , it should arrive at early of Jan.,

Thanks for your kind help and understanding.

If the PWM frequency is set in software it could be fixable with a firmware update, but if it's a hardware limitation, then it's a design flaw and you're SOL. I'd use it without LED's for now and hopefully they come through with either a firmware update that sorts it out or replace it later once (if) they've fixed the flaw.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Thanks for the input! I think I might just get some PBT caps and use it w/o the LEDs. I bought the board with clear switches. It will be my office board anyways :)
