POM/PBT recommendation for filco 87 TKL stealth MX RED?
« on: Tue, 10 March 2015, 21:30:41 »
Is there any POM/PBT set which has better typing experience than the original ABS set on filco 87 TKL? I mean something like the texture, the fingertip feeling...

Any good recommendation? I've learnt that some of the best choice are gmk, sp...but I really know so little about it.

Also, I prefer front/side print keycaps(the stealth style). I like simplicity and it just do the trick. :p

But someone told me ABS usually has better typing feeling than POM/PBT, is it true?

budget is not a big problem. ;)

GMK don't make PBT keycaps, and SP DCS profile keycaps aren't that good imo.
Side print keycaps arn't that popular, but I believe Feng has some in his store.  You can check his ebay and his website.
I can't say ABS is better than PBT because it is all depends on preference.  Texture on the keycaps also affect you typing feeling, so you really need to try them and find you favorite keycaps.

And also please notice that because Filco use costar stabilizers, the stabilizers may hit the wall of keycaps if the keycaps are wrapped or bended.  This happen on PBT keycaps quite often.

Thanks for correction, I've modified it.

It seems like a long journey....

Anyway, I would like to get the POM too after some reading.

btw, will the typing feeling to the fingers become worse when the keycaps get shiny?

I actually don't care about the look.

For PBT I would highly recommend the Leopold sets, and they do come in front printed in white or black. If you want POM I suggest to pull them off a Cherry G80/G81 model any black/dark ones that have model codes like LPBUS, you can find those for super cheap and asides from the occasional rough lasering there aren't any POM keys that are better available for MX.

thx, Ivan, ur so helpful :thumb:

Just ordered some Leopold keyset pbt and sp double shot abs keyset for filco after reading tons of posts. I hope I will appreciate them quite a lot. Some told me that shiny abs won't affect the typing feeling, while some said it will. Drizzyyyy

For POM, do u mean those keycaps from Cherry G80/G81 are some of the best POM available nowadays? Does Cherry sold them solely? Or I must look for them as disassemble parts from the matched G80/G81?

I've heard that KeyCool also makes POM keycaps, but some buyers complain some of the KC POM are too tight to install or uninstall from the MX axle. Not sure if it is due to KeyCool POM's quality. Are POM from Cherry G80/G81 has similar "tight" problems?

Yes, there is also separate Cherry key sets, KC104 but you will probably have to order them from TaoBao, aliexpress or some place like that. I don't know of any distributors of them in the west. It may be cheaper and easier to pull them off a G80/G81 found on your local ebay or similar. I've never had any of those cheap Keycool set, but definitely never had such problem with Cherry keycap unless with clear switch which seem to have such issues on almost any keycaps.
