CM Quick Fire XT caps profile help...
« on: Thu, 01 January 2015, 23:22:04 »
Hi !

I'm totally new to the keyboard geek thing and I'm super enthusiastic about modding my first mechanical  keyboard.
I want to replace some key caps but the problem is that I don't know the correct profile / size of the stock CM Storm Quick Fire XT...
Because it's holidays time, I did not receive my keyboard yet so I cannot measure it. Anyway, does any of you guys/girls know the
correct profile of the stock CM QFR XT ? Probably OEM but I'm not positive on that...

Also, I would like to keep most of the stock key caps, only change some for color/accent, do you know the stock caps material ?
I would like some accent caps with the same finish and texture as the stock ones if possible...

Any input is welcome...

Thanks !

Mike

The default caps you get with the QFXT are not that good... so I don't think there's any point getting any of the same quality when you can get high quality ones at a reasonable price.

Quality vs price is Ok ?? And it fit the QF XT right ?

Thanks !

Definitely a step up in quality with PBT compared to ABS. As for compatability, remove a keycap from your Quickfire and if you see the stem in the form of a cross on the switch, that means it's Cherry Mx and should be compatible with the set you linked on Ebay. Not sure about the pricing though.

It will fit the QFXT (uses a standard bottom row) and the price is ok.
Currently using: RK-9000WH/GR, CMS QFXT w/ Ghost Squid
- I'm game !

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
