Topre weighting help!

Hey everyone,

I just purchased a Filco Majestouch TKL and so far I'm loving it, I just ordered some cheapo o-rings off of Ebay (I'll get better ones if I like them), and basically I like the lightness of the keys, but I feel that they're almost two light for a main keyboard for me. I know that Clears are 5g heavier then MX Blues, but I'm mainly interested in buying a Topre board for my second board. I was wondering what a suggestion for weighting to look at if I purchase an HHKB. I have been using Macbook Pro keys with very little travel for so long now that I've gotten use to a slightly heavier weighting then the MX Blues, and I'm looking for Topres that are around that weight. I'm also going to want to dental band the HHKB (that I'm getting in the future) as the sound on them would sound amazing.


TL;DR: What is a heavier Topre alternative to MX Blues?

55g topre definitely feels heavier than blues. Still not all that heavy, but it is a noticeable difference. 45 feels similar to blues weight wise with less tactile feeling.

Ok cool. I don't want to say this like I'm not happy with my keyboard, but it's almost hard to feel the bump when I press down on the blues. Are 55G Topres more tactile then blues?

Not at all. Feels more like clears. Noticeable resistance, but still buckles easily.

55G topres feel very tactile, and the heavy weighting takes a bit of time to get used to. While I enjoyed typing on a Realforce 55g, I would recommend trying out the FC660C which is 45g but also feels tactile without being too heavy.

45g Topre are supposed to be the same weight as 45g blues, but the force curve is different.

Topre switches have more resistance to start with, and then glide buttery smooth all the way to the bottom.

Blues tend to start off light, get gradually heavier, then click and fall to the bottom.

Also Topres sound better when they return to the top position.

I'm not sure if it is the norm or a defect of my topre board but when I type fast on home row keys, there is increased air resistance and a shhh sound, almost as if I was forcing out the air from under the dome too quickly.

From my experience topre resistance increases as your typing speed increases.
