[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] I thought I would say hello and introduce myself.  I've been around computers since the Apple and CBM days, but I just didn't know if anyone has actually obtained the Unicomp 103 Enhanced M keyboard yet?  I broke down and ordered one.  It's nice and behaves just like my IBM 1391401 keyboard.  The difference is that it has a Windows key between the left alt and ctrl keys, and has a menu key between the right alt and ctrl keys.
I really like this keyboard.  It's about time that Unicomp got it right!  The HUGE difference is that I can't really distinguish the feel of this versus my IBM 101.  The keys are in the right place and I'm not stumbling over that #@$@#$@$% key by the spacebar anymore.

Has anyone else experienced it?  It's not for gaming, I know.  It's just a fine keyboard that I love typing on.

I certainly like the full size space bar, I think that using 1u sized Meta keys between the 1.5u control and alt keys is the best way to preserve the 'idea' of the original model M.

Another thing that would be cool is having Unicomp make something like this for an SSK....  An 86 key like this?
Edit: Put the status LED's in the upper left hand cutout too.

It seems a lot of people are interested in unicomp to make an SSK but i don't know if there's any progress on that.

I use a Model M for gaming from time to time ;)

Unicomp are rumoured to be making an SSK-like keyboard, but I find the proposed layout to be something of an abomination.  Something like the classic IBM SSK layout would be perfect - I would snap up one of those in an instant if it became available (at a reasonable price).

Like the picture I showed there?  It's just the 103 with the 10-key off of it.  Looks a lot like the old 84 key SSK.  Just has the Windows and Menu keys between the Alt and Ctrl keys.  I think that would be good aye?

Yeh, if they made a TKL like the original SSK I'd snap one up just like that!  But the abomination they are threatening us with is ... very different.

LOL that April Fools' joke frpm Unicomp.  They do some good things but it seems you have to literally have a 5-6 message exchange with them whenever you want something done in a particular way.  I talked to one guy on the phone to finally get things right.  I have the feeling that the 86-key (10-keyless) is very much a probability with the design of the new 103-key layout.  (I put a thread about that after I joined here.)
  Since that design modification it makes Unicomp able to make an 86-key very easily.
I have a strong feeling they are going to introduce them as well as a couple more things.  (I am hoping they actually introduce several different color bezels to compliment the new color legend keys.)
A nice way for them to bring in a new year, I would say.  I want to see them stay in business for years in the future.  A lot of 20-somethings here have never even had their hands on a true Model M to begin with!
You can't just go to a big box store and get them now.  They can't experience it unless someone has one for them to actually try and use for a day.
Maybe I am opinionated, and stubborn, but I have tried other keys and boards, and always fall back on the M.
I just don't want to see it vanish into oblivion. 
  Oh well.

Internal joke someone from inside thought it was for real!  Oops.

Edit: I don't think that design was what they had in mind for tooling.  The 86-key could be done if and when they have the equipment and demand for it.  The time is right and the design can be easily done now.  It's up to them.

Edit #2: I believe something is in the works now.  They will probably call it the 10-keyless model.  This makes more sense now than any other time as far as marketing is concerned.  I hope it's soon.

Edit #3: Time for bed.  Another interesting little item may just be a numeric keypad too!  (Maybe?)

I sent Unicomp a picture of what I thought might be a good Industrial color.  This was an experiment that failed on my part, but I think they could make the keyboard bezels any color they want.
This was forwarded to their R&D (if I remember correctly)
Edit: I like the color too!  Choice is a good thing, isn't it?

Time for bed.

I can only guess as to WHEN they will release, seems to me that if that press release were true at the time, they would have released at that time.  I don't know any more than anyone else about what Unicomp does or will do, but I just hope they do the right thing by everyone.

I am not "all knowing" or anything of that sort.  I just don't want to sound like that at all.  Since that announcement in April, I have been waiting anxiously for ANY news on this, and it has never materialized.  I assume it was a joke now.  There is no way they would make such an announcement and nothing materializes.
I just hope the new design is like the picture I posted.  I think most everyone here would agree.

One like this would be very tempting.  Enough like the original, but includes Win and Menu keys.

Mind you, something like this has been rumoured for several years now.  No-one is holding their breath any more :))
