Deep Dish Spherical
« on: Wed, 21 January 2015, 15:11:16 »
Who makes very deep spherical keycaps? I remember them being more common in the 8 bit and dumbterm era. I remember in some cases they were less spherical and more like an inverted rounded trapezoidal prism, and those I'd be particularly interested in, though maybe those were just for the wider keys.

SP makes deep dish 1x1 SA caps, they use them for homing keys on some sets:

88247-0

88249-1

Not sure of their capability to make larger than 1x1, though.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

FWIW, I recently asked the nice folks at mechanicalkeyboards.com about spherical key caps. This is the copy-pasted response I received from Justin:

"We do not anticipate stocking this profile of keycap due to many factors. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you are interested in SA Row 3 only profile keycaps, there will be a group buy for them coming up at the end of this month for these:

http://www.pimpmykeyboard.com/deals/1976/

The color scheme my be off from what you may be looking for but, they will be available. Also, there is another group buy going on right now on GeekHack.org by some of the members under the group buy tab."

For a little while it was possible to find some Filco doubleshot spherical key caps which may be SP SA profile keys. These are currently sold out at KeyboardCo for US keysets but they have some ISO key sets in stock. Helen there advised me,

"We will have more [US keysets in] stock, but unfortunately it will be months as opposed to weeks. [...] Shipping to the states would be £10.19 via Royal Mail International (1 - 3 weeks) or £16.80 via Courier (3 - 4 days)."

There is always Group 5a over at Deskthority as well.

Signature Plastics has the SA profile as well as the elusive SS profile. I wonder if I'll ever see SS profile keys (or if SP will ever do SA or SS in PBT).
