Sup GH!
« on: Sun, 08 February 2015, 23:23:32 »
Hey guys, been lurking here for about a week now. Figured I'd sign up, say hello. I bought a MacBook Air recently, and it's great! Except for one thing, of course! So I've been on the hunt for a good keyboard and of course it's pretty hard googling information on Mechanical Keyboards without Geekhack popping up.

This isn't my first time buying a mech, tried one out 3-4 years ago and loved the feeling. I bought a board without researching too deeply, so I never found out about Geekhack back then. Bought a Das Model S Professional that has served me well so far (I'm typing on it right now).

But it's not exactly mobile, which is why I'm looking for a new mech. I saw a 60% and thought that would be the perfect size. After some looking around I decided on the Poker 2. But then I found out Poker 3s are coming out soon and figured I'd wait for one of those, or grab a used 2 for cheap. Of course, I've been lurking the forums looking up more information as I've still got time to make my decision... and I've found out about all sorts of stuff - custom keycaps, cases, etc. It's crazy, I never really paid attention to that before - I still have the stock caps for my Das! But who knows, maybe not for long? :P

tl;dr Blah blah blah, hey I'm Vindaon nice to meet you guys!

Welcome man! great to hear you are well on your way to discover mechanical keyboards. Definitely look out for the poker III and learn some things along the way  :thumb: Be careful though, entering this domain means your wallet will forever hate you  :))

Welcome to Geekhack!

You can't go wrong with a Poker II, if you want to get one now.  So many people have them, and they are a standard layout so finding replacement keycap sets is easy.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
