Mionix Zibal 60 opinions?
« on: Fri, 29 November 2013, 22:05:15 »
Hey guys, I've found a Minox Zibal 60 keyboard for sale for pretty cheap, and i've been thinking of picking it up to use as a play board. and to eventually paint it up and give it away as a christmas gift. But would like some opinions on it.

If anyone has any exp. with it please let me know what you liked, didn't like about it.

Trying to decide for this or go get a keyboard i'm more familiar with.

I have played with it a bit a frys before but I was mainly testing the switches and didn't check out the keyboard itself.

good quality board, Costar made ( equal to Filco in quality), nice long thick braided cable which adds to the rough/tough look of the keyboard, it can attract the older age gamers (middle age and up) CONS: keycaps will start to wear off in the first month under heavy use maybe even earlier, so besides the keycaps quality it is a tank!!! LED's are not crazy bright with 3 settings, some find it good and then some who like their boards to look like lighted up Christmas tree wont like the highest setting because its not crazy bright...

Hope this helps.

Yeah to bad they cut the corners on the keycaps.

If someone finds the secret den where Vortex and Deck are sourcing their keycaps... That would be great!

- bad keycaps

+ both this and the Tte Meka G1 (non-backlit cousin) have the smoothest and easiest to press Cherry MX Black's I've ever tried on a stock board.

cool, yeah keycaps don't bother me, I have about 4 sets laying around I can throw on it.
from what I can tell it uses standard keycaps. and I can just throw some of my spare Quickfire Sets on there or something.
( i've yet to find backlit keycaps that arn't crap, but by design they kinda have to be )

I'm just afraid of dropping the cash on a crap board.

Harvest some of the blacks for my other two boards, ( i love mix of red/blacks ) and then slap whatever bits and parts I have laying around on it and give it away as a gift.

Though I may like it and keep it, looks a little bulky.

its bulky but with attached wrist rest on it it gets stylish and if you ever break the wrist rest I believe you can get one from WASD that they sold as accessory for their Version 1, or if you end up liking  the board get one and have it as a spare http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/wasd-v1-clip-on-plastic-wrist-rest.html

Design is not exactly the same in shape but it will fit and match good.
