How are Zealios and Cherry MX Clears coming from MX Blues?
« on: Thu, 28 December 2017, 13:15:25 »
Simple question, I have Cherry MX Blues on my daily driver and they're pretty great, got MX Reds on my other keyboard and I'd take clicky over linear any day of the week. Now, how are Zealios and MX Clears coming from Blues? I'm interested in them but I'm not sure about the increasing weight after the tactile bump as I feel it could be tiring. Would it be recommendable to try Brown switches first? How different is tactile from clicky?

Thanks in advance   :D

Ask yourself if you thought cherry blues were too light. If your answer is yes, you may like clears. If your answer is no, then clears will be too heavy, and you should get ergo clears, which is exactly what zealios switches are, except they use the exceptionally smooth gateron slider, gold plated spring, and a dollop of lube on the slider. I think 62g zealios is fine for someone coming from blues, even though they are heavier. It is not so much heavier I even notice when going from one to the other, in my personal experience. However, I don't like bottoming out cherry switches, so I appreciate a bit more weight to catch the slider after overcoming the bump.

Zeal switches feel very smooth with a large tactile bump(for cherry). There is also Mod-M switches which I rank right up there with zealios, except they aren't as smooth, however, the bump feels sharper and more pronounced, possible for the very same reason they feel less smooth, no lube. Mod-L switches are based on the brown slider, and the tactility is not very pronounced. Mod-H switches are more like cherry clear with the weighting, but feels more slightly more tactile. All of these modifications to the clear switch use linear springs though.

If you want more tactility than mod switches, you pretty much have to jump ship to alps. You can also throw a clear slider in a panda switch body for extra tactility, but that starts hitting the wall, as the switches tend to stick as the tactility is getting too high for cherry's design to cope with xD.

If you want a light switch with light tactility, then browns are for you. Yuck. :)
