What Keyboard are you Buying Next?
« on: Thu, 16 April 2015, 04:18:03 »
I'm always curious when there's an influx of new boards, customs and various keyboard group buys running.

What keyboard are you planning to assemble or buy next?

I want an F at some point.
Next keyboard buy is either the RS84, I need a 75% ISO.
Then I'll want a HHKB cherry keyboard. Either a GON but I'll wait for Duck Viper V2, hopefully he will do an ISO Viper V2.
And Novatouch 55g if it were to happen one day.

No new keyboards for me, as I have enough now.  There's just one more I'd like, the fabled Matias/Alps switched keyboard in TKL format in a metal case, but I suspect I'll be waiting a while for that one.
Collector-of-switches.  Cherry: red, brown, blue, black, grey (linear), green.  Alps: simp./comp. white, comp. blue, Matias.  NMB: white, black.  Futaba: Cherry stem.  Omron: yellow.  Topre: 45g  Various: Apple II+, TRS80 Model 1, C64, Acorn Electron, ZX81 (lol!).

I'm getting more than enough keyboards for free. The only ones I'd be willing to fork out for now is a Focus FK-5001 or 9000, as they're fairly unique and very cool.
Check my keyboard video reviews:

Put in my order for the Pok3r yesterday. :) White with clears. Nothing too expensive, but I've been waiting to invest a 60% for a little while now.

Think I actually hit my personal keyboard conclusion, the only thing I can think of ever wanting is a nice beamspring, but I'd never use it.

Hopefully a beamspring with a different layout than displaywriter, 3101, or 5251. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of beamsprings out there right now though.  Budget probably $200-$400 depending on the model and condition.

Well, I'm in Japan next month soooo, I guess I'm in trouble. I'll have to get that HHKB Type-S in blanks + keycaps (black blanks to have that nice look + RB enter / ESC). I'm ordering that in advance and that will wait for me @ my friend house in Tokyo. With a RF Keypad. Then we'll see. A Minila maybe... ? :P

I'm also tempted by the Pok3r on Massdrop, but still can't choose the switchs... :x

I don't know. This B.87 with 62g springs, and lubed black switches is pretty sweet. Not nearly as heavy as I was expecting, and I'm having fun playing around with the layout and LED color.

I'm leaning toward anther HHKB, but probably a stock one and dental-banding it.

Well, once the Massdrop ends, a Pok3r. I'm in the second drop, though, so it won't get to me until August, likely.

In the meantime, though, I'm strongly considering a Novatouch. I want to feel the Topre love, but I'm not ready to go full on to an HHKB just yet. I'm also thinking about building a Planck.

I'm also closely following the Hubble Mira IC. I want a custom board at some point, and that's the one that's caught my eye right now.

Everything's just so expensive with the cruddy exchange on the Canadian dollar right now.
Got nothing for ya. Head back to camp.

this ALMOST makes me feel better about how much I have spent in the 4 months I've been in this hobby. But I agree with your philosophy wholeheartedly. Get the base keyboards, don't buy anymore until you get them to where you like them.

You could probably get enough to get a GON kit by selling three of your boards, but I guess that qualifies as "most"?  :p

4 on the list but don't know when I'll pull the trigger.

TextBlade - This is the sex bomb.   If it ever gets to market I will be all over it.
Stenosaurus - because typing 200+ words per minute is achievable.
JD40 - The Planck or the atreus are tempting but I actually I'm not sure that I'd actually prefer the difference in layout.
Something fully programmable that I can swap my current into my current poker 2 aluminum case ( Colemak and Bluetooth)
Keyboard error F1 to continue.

Poker 2, Gherkin, Lets Split, Planck, Filco
