HHKB pro 2 inconsistent sound from different keys. Normal?
« on: Mon, 11 May 2015, 23:02:14 »
So I have used this HHKB pro 2 (55g) for a while now and one thing that has become a bit bothersome is that depending on what key im pressing, they mostly all have a different thock noise.  Some keys dont even really have a thock.

Example :

The keys QWE ASD ZXC , all exhibit a deep and nice thock noise when typing.

The keys IOP JKL NM< ,  all have MUCH less of a thock . Its more high pitched too on bottoming out they key.

This type of behavior is constant throughout the entire keyboard.

Its almost like the left side of my keyboard sounds completely different to the right side of my keyboard.

I've taken the HHKB apart like 8 times to try to find out why, but I cant seem to come up with an explanation.  Is this just the nature of the HHKB and topre?

I have not lubed it yet and im not sure if I want to, considering it might take away the thocks rather than make it louder.

Anyone else' HHKB act this way?

All of my cherry mx boards seem extremely consistent from switch to switch.  Is it normal for topre to not sound all the same?  While the keys dont sound they same, they all do feel the same on the HHKB

Speculating here, but: with case-mounted switches, the sound must come from not only the switch but the interaction between the key, the switch, and the part of the board where it's mounted. Seems to make sense there would be some acoustic variation and it wouldn't all be identical.
