Monthly Portland Keyboard Meet-Up [updated]
« on: Thu, 26 March 2015, 01:36:14 »
I made a post a couple months ago when I first heard about it and seeing if anyone else was close and didn't know or who would be interested in the next one. Last Feb was my first one at this bar with tons of seating and good beer/ food. There was probably a dozen people.  Awesome folks and lots of nerding out.

Last Sunday was March's, a lot of the same people. There was a few more total this time, a lot of awesome new keyboards and matrix projects were oggled and discussed. We finally got a topre to try out with those new doubleshot maimi taohao. Was definitely thrilled to have someone irl be interested in keyboards and my new custom.
Here are a couple pictures of the custom keycaps this guy made as well as the custom project he's working on.

Most everyone including the organiser and his publicity about the meet up have almost been exclusively on reddit to my knowledge, thought I'd bring it over here and share!

Cant see, but im wearing my GeekHack.org tshirt i got in the secret santa last dec.
Best part was woman covering her face in shame to our nerdome.

I'm the guy with longer dark hair with the poker w dolch in the first picture, and the one with the hat and the lightsaver in the 2nd.

Updates:
April:

May:

I think I can remember most of the keyboards in the table pic if anyone is curious.

Edit: Some pictures thanks to /u/manifex over on reddit.

Yeah. Dem jd's! Little small imo

It's not the size that counts, it's how you use it. :P

It's definitely better with one more column, though. Hence the JD45.

Yeah this guy xblackdog swears by the 40%.i guess if you know and use function layers, and don't need dedicated keys I guess it works perfect.

Wooooot!  Thanks for the post fknRaiden!  That was quite a fun meetup.  I can't believe we finally got to try out a Topre.  Very happy!

I started organizing these back in September or October and due to repeated attendance, blackdogx, PeaceLoveHappiness, and I started /r/PDXKBC.  I'd love to branch out to GH and DeskThority, but I'm a single dad with a full time job, and just haven't had a chance to round this club out to all the boards.  In case anyone is interested, there's a strong /r/portland meetup scene here and thought I would extend that out to our keyboard brethren.

blackdogx is indeed very quick with his JD40.  I just sold mine with the blacks, as I'm not.  We both used two function layers, mine were navigation and punctuation, and I believe his is navigation and functions.  Maybe he can reply with more perspective.  I have just decided to focus on TKL and 60%, though I just bought a FC660M w/dark grey tactile switches, so who knows?!

If anyone is in Portland, please come to our meetup!  Maybe some AFK goodness can happen between boards?  Probably too much to ask!   :))

Mmm, dat right-handed Maltron.

I traded that to blackdogx...  Even got in touch with Matron to get the lost F12 key.  Bought it off eBay for $50.  Did a joke bid at $51 and actually won.

Only a couple people here meet up and one is in a different state who organizes it normally.

I'm going to be showing up for the next one and bringing my Unitek white alps and my HHKB 55g modded. And may be silenced with topre-mx sliders by then, also.  :)

I just have to build up the courage to step outside into the real world.

It will be nice to have someone from GH. I like to stay in my dungeon as well.
