So-called Nazi Salutes taken out of context
« on: Fri, 17 July 2015, 22:09:43 »
I dislike intellectual dishonesty.

Here is a recent example of people who should know better, or at least do their homework before making accusations, but who go ahead and exploit misinformation to gull the masses.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-33578174

The Queen of UK making ‘Nazi’ salutes?

Another example taken totally out of context. The so called Nazi salute wasn’t invented by Hitler any more than the toothbrush moustache. And to make things even more extreme, it was a symbol of democracy, invented by a US citizen for saluting the US flag long before Hitler!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellamy_salute

This will give better context, especially since most of the photos are of US students saluting the US flag. https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=bellamy+salute&espv=2&biw=1713&bih=1773&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMIg-fs2NLjxgIVFS2ICh0KZgcM&dpr=1.1

If one does further research it shows that even the use of the ‘Hitler salute’ or Hitlergruss was controversial in its early days among Hitler’s coterie because of the association with ancient Rome.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_salute#Germany

As the article on the Bellamy salute points out, the Bellamy salute used to be the standard way of saluting the US flag. But due to the same tendency of intellectually dishonest people to take things out of context, any scumbag who did the 1940s equivalent of photoshopping out the US flag and replacing it with a picture of Hitler could cause confusion and sow distrust. For that reason the US Congress changed the law and adopted the hand over heart salute for the US flag instead.

This being a geeksite as opposed to some dumb site for wrestling or hockey fights, I expect the folks reading this to use their brains and not be fooled.

There is nothing intellectual about The Sun, so they can't be intellectually dishonest

Typical journalism news regurgitators, just designed to get a reaction out of people so as to sell a product. I would say that most who jump on the "queen was a murdering nazi" bandwagon probably don't know when WWII started and assume that this was taken during.

If you read any news article that you have any form of background knowledge on it is pretty easy to spot the sheer negligence towards factual reporting.  One of my favourites was a few years ago when the online news site I read told me that a kid under the age of 18 had been charged with capital murder, therefore would face the potential of getting the death penalty in the United States. Roper v. Simmons (2005) begs to differ but what escapes me is the fact that the majority of these stories come from central news establishments. The local outfits just copy from that. I  assumed that someone (here in Straya) just tacked the bit about the death penalty on for the purpose of getting a hurr durr out of someone. It was literally tacked on the end, I goggled the story and the original didn't mention anything about the potential for forced needle sleep.

Man now I am angry at the news for being so blazay about their stories.

I stopped watching and reading all mainstream media two years ago for this very reason. You only need to have some reasonable knowledge on any subject covered, to understand media establishments are intellectually incompetent. They can't handle a subject of any depth, ambiguity or controversy, and that's not accidental. They are there to direct your attention.

Like so many people, you probably have an abusive relationship with media; they abuse your curiosity, and then your rationality. You can take a break from it. You won't miss anything.

EDIT
The Last Psychiatrist has written a lot of mindblowing articles about how media is used to direct your thinking.

That the media is the primary way the system teaches you how to want should have been obvious to Hess, she works for it, but for that same reason it was invisible to her.

You don't believe what you read in newspapers?

Did you never see "Men in Black"?

"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

It's The Sun. The UK version of... what was that US paper called? The World Weekly News.

Edit: Doh! Someone beat me to it!
