Razer Blade Stealth?
« on: Tue, 19 January 2016, 16:26:27 »
Hey guys,

What do you think about the new Blade Stealth http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade-stealth? I don't really like Razer accessories all that much personally, everything I've owned from them has either a)stopped working or b) broke, but their laptops have always been appealing to me (perhaps it's the black CNC'd Aluminium chassis).

Anyways, I'm thinking about getting a new laptop for work later this year. And was wondering what you guys thought about the new Blade Stealth, I was thinking the one with the hi-res screen (with 100% Adobe RGB, as I do a lot of graphic work). I've always liked the idea of getting a smaller laptop and I think the possibilities with Thunderbolt are pretty sick (ie. connecting an external graphics card), so at work I could potentially connect a workstation graphics card (like the Nvidia Quattro range) to it. And then at home connect a gaming graphics card to it.

And if it wasn't the Blade, I'd probably go for a Dell XPS or something.

I'm in AUS so I have no idea when it's going to arrive here, or how much it's gonna be (judging by there current Razer Blade US price vs the AUD, it's gonna be a lot more :( )

But yeah, what do you guys think of it? Any other alternatives? :E (It would be connected to an external monitor as well)

From what I get from the trailer, in order to actually get decent gaming power, you have to connect the laptop to the Core thingy... So thats two things you have to buy at around $1k each?

No thanks. I would go for Alienware if you really want to go for a gaming laptop. Or even get one built for you by one of the many companies that do that now.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I am in the apparently miniscule club of people who have owned the majority of Razer products for multiple years and still going strong...only had 1 product break which was a bargain bin 2012 BWU but it was $60 and returned it for full refund.

edit: wait, you have to connect it to something for full power? No thanks. Just buy alienware. Razer has much to learn from leading companies when it comes to support though....not so good experiences with them when the time came.

Not really going for a gaming laptop as much as a work laptop, just want something really portable, hence why I sort of didn't mind the whole extra Core thingy, could just leave that at work and connect to it - then do all the low power stuff on the laptop by itself.
But yeah, it's going to be pricey af so I'm kinda on the fence with it, especially when it comes down under :( The screen was really attractive though, using an 100% RGB dell monitor now, and oh my god it's beautiful <3 ____ <3
A mate of mine has the mini Alienware laptop, it's pretty cool, it's just too bulky for my taste :( Hmmmm :blank:

Connecting a gaming rig to an ultrabook seems like an oxymoron to me.  That being said, it has some solid specs for an ultrabook.

Yeah the specs arn't bad, the 8gb or ram could be problematic with all the heavy software I use :S But, the size is so attractive for what I need. Gigabyte Aorus laptops don't look too bad either, really want something with a nice display though.

I wonder if other companies are making those graphics card enclosures for Thunderbolt

Yea, such solutions have been around for Macs for a while.

example: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EchoExpSE1?adpos=1o1&creative=55226069761&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CjwKEAiA2ve0BRDCgqDtmYXlyjkSJACEPmdwQleY6z2bhbHdM1BIyoFonUI6sck4gTSisWG3VUcCAhoCY0jw_wcB

But the thing with Macs is that they can't game like PCs/Windoze can. So...if you need that much power for video/photo editing you've probably already bought a more powerful Mac because you can or work is paying for it.

Nice to see someone bring that idea to gaming though, even if it's Razer.

Oh yeah that's really cool! Wonder if there's more options for Windows computers, or even if that thing is compatible O_o.

I do mostly CAD work and rendering so I gotta use Windows, I'd keep my main laptop (A Lenovo W520 portable workstation) for rendering, then just use an ultrabook type thing for doing CAD + graphic work on the go.
