Good morning everyone
« on: Mon, 06 July 2015, 02:18:38 »
Hi everyone,

My name is Clément, I live in Lyon (Southern France) and found out about the whole mechanical keyboards stuff a month ago. It drove me crazy ever since. I have been willing to buy everything related to it since I started looking for keycaps, keyboards on the Internet. I didn't get chosen for the latest BroCaps sale and I know that I'll enter everyone of them starting now.

I have always been a collector since my younger years and I think I found my new collecting addiction. I do not own a mechanical keyboard yet but am definitely going to buy that Shine 5 in September when it will be out and that I will build my first rig. RIP MBA, you've served me well through college.

Geekhack seems like a great community but I don't really know where to start since the forum is pretty big. I browse daily the mech subreddit and am gonna start doing so over here.

Regards,
Clément

Hi and welcome!

September is way too long :D are you eyes only fixed to that Shine 5? It's a good backlit keyboard especially with their new stabilizer and dual layer pcb

Hey french friend,
i'm not myself from Lyon, but I was often there for school and ended up meeting often with another "Lyonnais" from GH.
Will the shine 5 be your first mech or do you already have one/multiples ?

@jokrik: Yeah I fixed my eyes on the Shine 5 because I bought and sent back for full refund a Shine 4 69 edition to try out the different switches and feel in love with the MX reds. They feel so smooth and I didn't really like the clicky ones. I think I'm gonna go with Ducky Channel since I heared only good feedbacks about their products. Do you concur with it?

And yes September is way too long but I wanna wait for Skylake chips to be released along with the new intel socket coming with it.

Lyon is known for being the French capital of gastronomy so yeah, we have pretty good food over here!

@azhdar: you're right, the Shine 5 will be my first mech keyboard. I'm really excited to get mine when LDLC.com will have it in stock. I mean, I hope they'll have some.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Most people do not win a Bro Cap (or other artisan) on their first try.  Or second.  Sometimes it can take a dozen tries before you are lucky.  Sometimes you can get lucky very quickly.  The most important thing to remember is that there will be another sale :)

GH is getting bigger every day, but just browse around, and when you find a topic that you can contribute to, just reply.  Your posts will add up in no time at all :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
