Fukka vs Matias switches
« on: Thu, 09 July 2015, 07:26:13 »
So I've long since decided on buying the KBP V80 with Matias switches when it came out, but it seems they're also selling some with Fukka switches. I'm going to be using replacement ALPS switches for this board anyway but whatever I pick to use with it might be good to put in something else, so I'm wondering how the Fukka switches compare with Matias switches, and if possible I'd also like to hear any comparisons between Matias clicky, Fukka, SKCM White and SKCM Blue.

I haven't had a clicky Alps switch that I didn't like.  Even those clones (non-Fukka) that came towards the end of the Filco Zero's life - people thought they sucked but I didn't think they were that bad.

However (!) if I do have a strong opinion on something it would be the Matias Red Linear...

Not good ... Not good at all ... Holy crap they totally let me down.  Feels like a 10 year old well spent rubber dome.  It's crisp yet mushy at the same time?  Not the worst switch I've ever tried - not even worst top 3; but by far the most disappointing based on expectations.

The Fukka switches on the V80 I had to try felt remarkably like the Matias Click switches next to it. I thought the Matias Click were a bit more tactile while the Fukka were a bit more clicky.

SKCM White are a bit too stiff for my tastes in terms of actuation force. I didn't enjoy using them for long periods of time.

SKCM Blue are my favorite. They're wonderfully clicky and a bit tactile. Very smooth and just the right actuation force for me. Matias Clicks are no slouches though.

Thanks, Cpt. Of the four, the only one I've tried so far are whites (typing on them now) and I have the same problem with them. They're alright, but damn they're stiff. I have an unusable blue alps board sitting around which I can use as a future switch donor, and even on that thing I can tell how much better they are. My plan for the v80 is to put blues in it. I guess I should order it with clicky switches though, based on your description they seem to be the best choice.

I can't wait for the Matias V80's to come out! I'm thinking about just keeping the stock Quiet switches on mine.

Quiet tactile or linear? Their linear switches have the noise dampening now, apparently.

I was thinking of getting one with quiet switches but I already bought that Dell AT101W with Matias quiet switches. It hasn't arrived yet, though. I'm glad to get a chance to get an Alps TKL, though.

Having both, Id give matias the nod. Seem to be smoother, or not bind quite as much.  Also I think they feel more tactile.  Maybe, as CptBadAss has suggested, the fukkas are more clicky.  I would love to try Matias quiet click.  They sound like they might be one of my favorite switches, despite me liking loud switches.  Model F will always be my favorite though, I think.

More interested in the feeling, but I wouldn't mind listening to them. If you feel like recording, sure.

I'm interested in the quiet click variant. I've never tried ALPS/ALPS clones before so I'm taking a bit of a shot in the dark in that regard, but I like the way Cherry MX Browns feel. With that being said though, the keyboard I am using now is Cherry MX black so I am not against the idea of linear switches. I have a V60 with quiet clicks on the way, so I'll know soon enough if I like them or not.

I'd be interested in that, since there aren't many sound comparisons for ALPS on the net right now.
