RS84 Key LED's
« on: Fri, 31 July 2015, 15:44:59 »
The RS84 group buy thread has been locked for some reason... so I cannot ask there.  I really don't understand why.

I put together the kit, but the LED's on the keyboard's keys do not light when I am testing them.  The little remote turns on the underside LED's but not the ones on the keys.  Anyone with this board have any idea how to get the LED's on the switches to work?

Yea, not sure why the thread was locked either. Anyhoo, the default setting should be Fn + V or C or N, I forget. You should read the last page of the thread and flash a new keymap.

Oh ok, so they don't turn on by default when you plug in the board?  I just wanted to check the polarity as it is not marked on the PCB.  There is a round and square pad on the LEDs... right now I think the round is negative and square is positive.  I didn't want to put the caps on and flash it until I had all the LEDs in the switches, but I guess there is no way to test the switches LED unless I could find the default FN key.

Correct, the square marking on the pcb "should" always be for the longer lead on the led for +. Make you test your stabs 100% before soldering the switches & plate on! =)

OK, I am confident now to put the LEDs in.  Thanks for the lightning reply!

This is only my second build, but I spent a LOT of time setting up the layout and testing the spacing of keys to match the keycap set that is on the way soon.  I am hoping I can avoid any desoldering fun.

Thanks again.

fasho pimpin'..

I soldered in all my switches, then soldered a couple leds in, plugged in the usb and made sure the batch of leds I got weren't bad before I soldered the rest in.

lol yea I did basically the same thing, but I used a multimeter to check the LEDs... then plugged it in to check the polarity but couldn't get the switches to light.  Thats why I posted here :)
