Keyboard size question CM Storm Tk
« on: Sat, 22 August 2015, 15:30:42 »
I've recently got in the market for a new keyboard and im making the jump from rubber dome to mech. I came across the CM Storm TK which seems to be a hybrid of full 104 and tkl. Like instead of being a tlk it loses the arrows and function buttons between the keypad and the rest of the board. Im really interested in this as i never use the arrows or the home pgdn keys but i use the num pad quite often.

So my questions are as follows:
Whats the size of this keyboard? (e.g. 100% = 104key and 80% = tkl)

Is this the only mech keyboard this size?

I don't know if there's a classification for this size yet.  Or at least not that I know of.

My guess would be 90% will be the closest.

As for is there any keyboard like this.  There is Thermaltake MEKA:  http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6043/s-glam.jpg

I think that's about it unless you start looking into Korean customs ($300+).

Be aware that the TK has a non-standard bottom row, which will make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find replacement keycaps.

Also consider a smaller keyboard (60%?) and a separate numpad.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks guys.

I was around the 90% size as well.
I also didnt realize it had a non standard bottom row!

Also ive never actually thought about a 60% with an additional num pad.

I will look into both of those. Thanks guys
