Well, Hi there!
« on: Sun, 20 September 2015, 00:09:36 »
Hey guys, new to GH and figured I should introduce myself, maybe say a bit of my background.

I started getting into mechs a few years ago in college, where I had bought a Razer Blackwidow with MX Blues after a dome keyboard had failed. Having had no experience with mechs, it was the most amazing thing my hands had been graced with (but the worst thing my roommate's ears were plagued with). Fast forward a few months, I acquired a CM QFR with MX reds due to complaints of noise and sold off my Blackwidow.

Fast forward another year and a half, I wanted to buy another mechanical for work and stumbled upon the mechanical keyboard subreddit when researching the Rapoo KX. It was all downhill from there for my wallet, and now I own a variety of keyboards, the crown of which is my HHKB Pro 2 I am currently typing this on (soon to be overtaken by my MX Green planck on Wednesday when I build it, at least I am pretty sure).

I also have recently gotten into the restoration scene, acquiring a few older boards and a typewriter. I never thought projects like that could be as much fun as they are, and I am totally in love with this new hobby.

Outside of keyboards, I have dabbled in a lot of media production. I started out with an interest in graphic artwork in high school, followed by game design, and ultimately stuck with programming which became my college & career choice.

I look forward to being a part of the community!

Welcome to Geekhack!

This is a very deep rabbit hole that you can fall down, sometimes referred to as Wallethack, for reasons that have probably already become apparent to you :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
