Tried KBP V60 with Matias quiet click switches?

I was looking for feedback from anybody who has used this relatively new switch.  I happen to like MX browns very much but am looking to try something new.  I wish I could see an actual force curve and compare it.  Anyway, if the bottom half of the keystroke is even lighter I may be less inclined to purchase this.  I often bottom out with browns because of how light they are and if these have even less resistance.

I happen to like the slight bump in browns; I actually prefer it.  But I don't mind if it is more pronounced.

Hm, well I wrote a review on the V80 with Matias Quiets. The V60 was all right but the case was kinda like a Poker X. Bit too light for my tastes.

Matias' website has all the numbers you're looking for. Unfortunately they don't have a force curve.

And I think they're heavier and much better than MX Browns.

I had one of these and they are absolutely brilliant to type on. I don't particularly care for MX Browns because I don't feel they offer enough of a bump. The Matias switches are amazing. They are not too hard, the bump is perfect, and the throw of the switch is slightly shorter than MX. Once more cap options are out there for ALPS switches I will probably get another board with MQC. I love them.

This is all subjective to my personal preference of course, but if you even think you will like them, then you will probably love em. Everyone should give them a try, and ALPS in general. Great switches.

I have been using a V60 with quiet touches for the last week as my daily board and it is quite nice. 

There is a much more pronounced bump at the top of the stoke with a very nice soft bottom out.  I am a very harsh typist with every stoke bottoming out with authority and so far, this is one of my favorite switches.

I'm typing on one right now.  High actuation, reasonable force, nice quiet click. Basically, these switches are optimized for typists and I'm done with Cherry stuff, except for layout experimentation.

These are the old ALPS. Im pretty sure someones done matias somewhere too.

I sent a few Alps caps to a fellow GH user so he could try out the Matias Quiet Clicks. He described it as a heavier and smoother version of an Ergo Clear...it seems so heavenly.

I recently got a v60 with quiet clicks as well. I've been running it as my daily driver for the last week or so, and I'm really enjoying it. The fn-layer is very well thought out, and the switches are pretty nice.

I still prefer complicated alps, but for a new board the matias clicks are great. To me they're head and shoulders above stock clears or browns.

I didn't have a great experience with the quiet clicks the first time I tried them. While they are great to type on, the keyboard built around them (Matias Laptop Pro) didn't have great build quality, and it suffered from key chatter. Yesterday I managed to snag a V60 with quiet clicks on fleBay for a good price so I'm going to give them another shot. The V60's layout is really nice, better in many respects than the Poker and even the HHKB. It'll be interesting to see how it fares when I put it into my rotation.

It's one of my two daily drivers. And yes, it's good. It's somewhat stiffer than my old AEKII, but still good and quiet. And I like it's Fn layer.

Badwrench, that's very kind of you .  Let me think about it.  I see there are lots of mixed reviews, but you have that with any switch.  Actually on the Matias website they describe the force curve.  To overcome the tactile resistance is 60 gf.  They don't say the point of actuation, but the bottom of the keystroke is 35 gf.  So the resistance decreases the further down you go. 

Cherry clears I think are too stiff for me, but I very much like how the force increases further down the keystroke.  Even MX Browns at the point of actuation are 45 gf and at the bottom it's 60 gf.  So once you break through the point of peak resistance, how do you decelerate your finger and not have it mash the bottom?

Maybe I should just say F*@$ it and just get it.  What's a hundred bucks?  You never know til you try it.  I have heard some people describe them as too stiff and this is what concerns me most, as I like the resistance of browns.

I like both Matias Click and Matias Quiet Click switches much better than any Cherry mx switch. I have two KBP V60MTS boards, one with each type of Matias switch, and I like them both. Overall, I prefer typing on the Click variety, but if I need quiet, I go with the Quiet Click.

To put this in perspective, here is how I rank order switches I have tried:

IBM capacitive buckling spring (Model F) > Silenced Topre 55g > Silenced Topre 45g > Standard Topre 55g > Standard Topre 45g > Matias Click > Matias Quiet Click ~ various other Alps or Alps-like switches > IBM membrane buckling spring (Model M) > Space Invader or Angry Bear > Matias Quiet Linear > Cherry mx brown > Cherry mx green > Cherry mx red > Cherry mx clear.

It seems like Matias might be doing something about the QC in their new 60% board. That bottom row though....

Matias Quiets are wonderful switches. The bump is very pronounced, but buttery smooth. I love them.

Reviews and other people's opinions are not enough info to form your own conclusion.  I do have concerns about the lack of resistance at the bottom of the keystroke.  I have adjusted to the use of brown switches quite well.

I have a V60 with Matias Clicks and a AEKII with original SCKM Dampened Cream Alps. (What quiet click was designed off of)

From MX Brown, expect a heavier switch with a bigger tactile bump. Nothing like Clear but somewhere in the middle. From my switch tester the weight is close to a blue but a bit heavier. They have weights on Matias website for you to check out.

Telling from SCKM Dampened the bottoming out will be softer. Some people say SCKM Dampened feels like a rubber dome but I disagree. it is a lot more refined.

Dont be afraid of ALPS! They're a great switch. If all else fails get the Clicky kind and enjoy it.

1.) You are probably over thinking this, but I do understand.
2.) Don't return it, sell it in the classifieds. Someone will buy it for very close to retail and then you won't get hit with restocking fees. You'll lose almost nothing.

This is good advice, provided the board he bought allows for switch top removal.

Micro Center should have some that you can try. They carry Matias keyboards. They're in the Apple section. You ask the people working if you can check out the boards. Looks like there's a Micro Center in Brooklyn, Flushing, and Long Island.

My local Micro Center has them for stock and lets me play with any keyboards if I ask nicely.

Oh no kidding!  Maybe I will.  There is a store in Manhattan called B&H photo and it's huge.  They have a section with mechanical keyboards, but the only ones they had on display were boards with Cherry blues, including that stupid Deathstalker or Black Widow or whatever that Razer board is called ( I couldn't see any appeal to it).  They said I could special order a board with Matias Switches but it would take a few weeks.  I would have thought there were lots of stores to choose from in Manhattan, but I guess I was wrong.  Most stores only displayed cheap Logitech boards.

Anyone who tried Clears and Matias Quiet? I'm asking this because I went from Blues to Clears and found Clears to be a bit too stiff, and the force for the Quiets I think its the same as Clears (65 vs 65 ?). I really liked the Blues but were too loud and found the Browns bump way too muted (like many people describe as "gritty" Reds) and now I'm finding Clears a bit too stiff. Since I'm not into modding to do a "ergo" clear I think my last chance is Matias Quiet.

I've noticed that the QC switches in my V60MTS-Q are somewhat inconsistent. As expected, most of the switches don't have an audible click most of the time, but some switches emit an audible click (at times but not always). In contrast, the sound and feel of the C switches in my V60MTS-C are highly consistent.

The feel of the QC switches is somewhat like typing on Cherry mx switches fitted with rubber O-rings. I notice this a lot because I usually bottom out every keystroke. I prefer the crisp feeling of typing on the MTS-C switches. The MTS-C switches are very loud, but I like the sound, and I am usually typing alone with no one else within earshot.

I too found the MX clears too heavy to use ultimately.  I like that you don't bottom out when typing, but when you hit the lower half of the keystroke it almost feels as if you have gone through the entire keystroke and are hitting the bottom.  The force increases that quickly and that I believe is what tires you out.  I am absolutely itching to try these, but I can't try every board that comes along.  I just bought the V60 with Gateron browns and I'm excited to try these out.

Yes it is and it's like heaven!  We used to be 15m away from it when we were in NYC.  Imagine Toys R Us but full of all the coolest electronics, musical instruments, cameras, and video equipment, that you'd ever find!  My wife would always drag me away and I would say that I'd be back since we lived there, but we had to move shortly after for her job.   I miss that place!  If you're ever in NYC, it is a MUST SEE.

I was in B&H last week. When I go, I try to have laser focus or else I'll just wander the labyrinths. I was trying to pickup some camera lenses but they didn't have what I wanted.

Fun fact about B&H: At one point last year, they sold off a bunch of their POS stuff which included a ton of Cherry boards with Clears....FOR $20 a pop. That was a great sale. They're using G80-18XX with the trackpad and MX Blacks right now.

The store is kind of like a Best Buy in that there is tons of equipment on display to handle and play with.  The store is considerably bigger and they cater to more of a specialty market.  If you were looking for a point and shoot Canon camera they have those, but also tons of high end professional stuff too.  I only looked at a very small portion of the store because it was near closing,  but I intend to go back.
