Where to find a good IBM Model M now?
« on: Sat, 18 May 2019, 02:53:00 »
Hey all,

Looking for a PS2 Model M (American English or Japanese). I've found a bunch of old threads, but they're all outdated. Where could I find one now?

EDIT: Actually looking at Clickykeyboards now...seems like the place to pick one up?

Thrift stores might be where you are looking for. They might not be as reliable as ClickyKeyboards, but you might find some other good keyboards there as well.

I bought one of the white labels from Clicky! Excited to get the beast.

I’d love to try and thrift store one, but I think my chances of finding one are pretty slim.

I juuust missed you, but for anyone else searching I'd suggest eBay. You can find some decent values there, especially if you're willing to put a little elbow grease into cleaning and restoration (screw or bolt mod if necessary).

In nearly a decade of looking at thrift stores for keyboards, I have only found 2 Model Ms and both were rubber domes.

Buy a new Unicomp. You will get Windows keys, native USB, and a warranty.

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
