Hey guys! I've heard a lot about you.
« on: Wed, 11 November 2015, 06:51:53 »
I've been on /r/mk for months now, just enjoying the content, but as my interest in mechanical keyboards grows (I'm picking out parts for a build as my first mech), I seem to be getting less and less from that sub, as it's mostly picture content that stays on the front page for a day or two. Also, I've become somewhat disinterested in popular keyboards, especially completely stock ones. An album of pok3r pics used to excite me, now I won't even open one, because it's just like the last one. Without even owning a mechanical keyboard, i've turned into an elitist, looking down on people with gaming keyboards and unmodded popular keyboards. It's definitely not very nice, but it's the truth, and that's why I'm going to spend more time here. The forum layout is much more conducive to community, while appearing somewhat complex to people who don't spend time on them. /r/mk and subreddits in general have little sense of community, and annoying hiveminds. Hopefully this doesn't sound too much like a rant, I still enjoy browsing /r/mk, but from now on I'll be spending more time here.

Don't listen to the rumors about us, we all suck. Especially that one guy. Yeah, him.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

That was demik's way of saying "Welcome to Geekhack!" He's been getting flak for being too nice, lately, so he had to tone it down.

Welcome! :)

I spent like an hour on this keyboard in my flair, i took one of the pixel art 60% ones and scaled it up, took me so long in ms paint.

What were we talking about?

Welcome to Geekhack!

rowdy has been busy at work and had weekend events to attend, and hasn't had as much time to browse GH as usual.

Not to mention a dozen or so other projects on the go, most of which have stalled for months now.

Anyway it's nice to see some other members, especially the established ones, welcoming the new GHers.  rowdy remembers when he first joined CLiB was the "official GH greeter" with his Wally (from Dilbert) pic.

Ah, those were the days :D

Also rowdy shouldn't listen to old music late in the afternoon when posting stuff in this section.  Too melancholy.

What was the question again?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
