Terminal IBM 122 $15
« on: Mon, 28 December 2015, 00:28:05 »
Ran into this while looking for something else.  If the part number is right and there's one in stock, this is one heck of a deal:

There's also a SSK listed for $10.  http://www.acsoutlet.com/listing.asp?pl=Desktop&cl=KB  Their SSL is busted though, so I'm not going to pursue it further.

I'll let you know how that one turns out. For $20 shipped, I thought I'd risk it.

Just be careful with this sort of stuff. I have found part numbers on websites like this for BS goodness but it turns out to be a newer RD.

You may end up with a Lenovo Thinkpad keyboard.

Scratch everything I have said. I think this is a link to a mirror site for that company. But what I was saying is that I have found what I thought was good BS stuff when further research has revealed it to be modern RD.

The reason that ssk may be so cheap is because it's a terminal type, so you need to mod it to use it with a PC.

OK, becuase I was about to order it myself. It seems you can order more than one, and the website doesn't show how many are in stock. We'll see.

I happen to remember them.  This was about a year ago, and they were telling me that they were moving to a new warehouse and had to inventory everything to get to what I wanted.  I gave them about a month, and they still weren't able to find what I did order from them.
I wound up cancelling my order.  I really don't know if ACS has their inventory straight yet.
That's my experience with them.

There is another place in Florida that has a website that they NEVER updated and I wound up calling them voice about a 1393464 keyboard.  They really had nothing left.  I just thanked them for the information.

I guess if a deal sounds too good to be true, maybe it is.

What mods would it need to work with a PC? Looking forward to your findings.
I found a thread on DT and basically you can put in a regular M controller for no numpad or you need to find a real ssk controller and put that in.  The swap is easy though--no soldering.

I've emailed them and called them about an order of about $100 worth of stuff in my cart that wouldn't order.  No reply so far.

If it's too good to be true...

I just spoke to them on the phone and they are "on back order" and have no idea when they will get them in.  I guess with the holiday they have not been able to update their site regularly. When he saw they were on back order he offered to cancel my order since it'll be a while before they see another.

In other words, don't hold your breath.

Update on this: after weeks of waiting while they looked around, the company confirmed that the 2 that they should have per their stock system were either lost or destroyed during a move. They have still not refunded me. Take that as a warning and consider how it may reflect on how they take care of the equipment.

It's very likely that this uses the RJ-45 connector, in which case you will have to do some mods to the keyboard itself, as a regular old converter wont work.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
