Overheard at the psych ward

While visiting with one of my clients, I heard a lady in the background insisting that she needed a sexorcism and that the person she wanted to have perform it went to school for it.  Not the craziest thing I've heard in my job, but I had a hard time keeping a straight face as the conversation went on.

Well, most if what iI hear in my job isn't humor, but severe delusions or responding to internal stimuli.  It can be very difficult to keep a straight face at times, especially when some of the more bizarre delusions start.

You also hear some fantastic plot lines for a thriller from them.  Sometimes I think it would be fascinating to spend 5 minutes in the head of some of my clients.  Other times I knew it works be terrifying, like the lady who told me she saw a demon in my face or some of the people I've seen on the verge of tears because the persecutory delusions are so strong.

One of my favorite bands, The Red Chord, have an album based on this very topic. The lead singer used to work near or in a psych ward. He would write down some of what people would say and turned it into lyrics. The album is called Clients. It's awesome.

There was a 90s rock band called the Wesley Willis Fiasco. Wesley Willis, the lead singer, was a homeless schizophrenic. His lyrics alternated between funny and downright scary.

I'm pretty sure he died a while back.

No, Wesley Willis was in an actual punk band before going solo with the synthesizer. Look up their song, Casper the Homosexual Friendly Ghost.

During live shows, Wesley would always read the lyrics from a printed sheet. And he had a permanent scar on his forehead from when he would frequently bash the microphone against his skull until he bled.
