Gateron switches hanging?

Hi all, so i've been running into an issue, that originally i thought was just my cherry profile keycaps hitting the leds, but removed the leds and went to OEM keycaps and the problem is still there.

My gateron blacks, hang like crazy. I'm guessing the slider is getting caught in the housing, and not sure if its just me or if this is common for other people as well?

The hang feels almost like a mx blue would and you have to use quite a bit of force to press the key down.


I have some cherry switches coming in the mail this weekend, and i'll see if I can figure out what is causing the hangs.

( and its not my board, I have an exact same one, same keycaps, the only difference is one is cherry, the other gateron.

It's an issue with thicker caps, the thicker diameter stem catches on pieces of plastic in the "stem hole" portion of the switch top housing. On my board with gateron yellows the issue went away gradually over time, as the keycaps wore down the plastic top. Otherwise you can take a file and try to enlarge the switch housing.


If you can't open up the switches your options might be more limited. Is your keyboard new? I would just try to use it for a while to see if it gets better.

its not super new, probably around 6 months or so, whenever massdrop first had them.

Its my home keyboard, so it does not see anywhere near the use as my work keyboard, and I don't game much anymore so I don't put much mileage on my home boards.

But my board supports opening switches, and I have a crap ton of cherry tops I can swap out if it still bugs me ( which is kinda does )

I'll swap it out with my keyboard at work, and that should break it in quite a bit.
