Costar Stabilizers & LEDS
« on: Thu, 31 December 2015, 17:48:12 »
Doing a little work on my KC60 and noticing the stabilizer wires are little different from the spares I have around. They are a little flimsy and was going to replace but the more common stablizer wires, such as the ones found at wasd, don't fit. With a LED installed, the switch top is rotated 180 to put the led at the top. Meanwhile, the body of the switch top now blocks the full rotation of the stabilizer. For reference the stab wires that come with the KC60 have a ridge the lies flat rather than up like on most costar keyboards (if that makes sense). The wire slaps the bottom edge of the keycap instead of staying hidden when the key is pressed.

A few questions:

1. I'm probably going to remove the leds, in which case, can the switch top be installed in either direction?
2. Is there another name for this type of wire stabilizer?
3. Is there somewhere I can buy replacements online? Having trouble tracking anything down.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The MX switch's tops are not reversible, they should be installed with the LED holes at the opposite end to the switch mechanism; therefore, even if you remove the LEDs the tops cannot be rotated.

Costar stabilizers wires come in slightly different designs, you should contact the manufacturer for replacements.

From the looks of the discussion on Massdrop, I'm probably better off just bending my own. Thanks for clearing up the switch top question.

Costar wires are easier to bend than Cherry because the wire gauge is thinner.
