Filco MJ Convertible 2 Ninja
« on: Thu, 31 December 2015, 14:47:23 »
Sharing pics since I haven't seen the ninja version mentioned on GH so far.

Got this and the Logitech MX Master for the office to use with my phones and tablets since 1) relatively higher IT security meant that a lot of non work related websites / services are blocked on the workstation 2) if you can't stand cheap dell keyboards, touch screen keyboards must be a worse kind of hell 3) decided the Razer BW i was using probably not the best image at work 4) much more convenient to be able to reply to quick emails / messages on the phone without taking hands off keyboard to pick up phone to type etc 5) not that it's a big deal but bonus for discreetly able to do some GH browsing / personal emails on the phone as needed without advertising the fact.
I always wondered why it took it took so long for muti-device wireless keyboards and mice to be made given most people spend some if not most of their time (productive or otherwise) on phones /laptops or other devices that were not their main computer. I thought the main consumer brands like Logitech would come up with this at least 5 years ago given all the people mistakenly thinking that their Unifying wireless receivers allowed switching devices on the fly. Once I found out Filco made a full size one I HAD to get it. I'm still surprised that Filco is almost my only quality choice outside of those "living room aimed" chiclet Keyboard touch pad combos currently out there. Of course I'm not complaining that it's a Filco, but more choices would be great.

Anyway it took me a while to confirm that all retailers were out of stock of the Convertible 2 with brown switches locally, and even the distributer wasn't sure when they would come in stock. The official Japanese Filco webstore lists browns as out of stock possibly indefinitely so not sure what's up with that. Luckily Taiwan's Army Group's online store had a couple in stock and shipping is easier compared to say from the Keyboard Co. (great service from Army Group btw if you speak the language, rather a generic email inbox they have a "message a rep" function specific to every page / process of the purchase so they know if you're asking about stock levels of a product or inquiring about a specific payment or a specific shipping order without you needing to explain the context).
Got it in less than 48 hours, the brush was a gift.
Essentially the same contents as the normal US 104 version, but with front printed keys with the Taiwan Chinese layout. I suspect the Ninja  version of the Convertible is limited to Taiwan only as I haven't even seen a 108 Japan or any English versions before. I don't use the Taiwan Chinese legends but the stock caps don't bother me for now, will switch them out in due time.

Very nice!  I was also looking for one of these a while back as it would be great to just hit a switch to move between typing on the computer and my phone.

I ended up just getting a separate bt keyboard for the phone, but still want to try both an otg adapter as well as the Filco.  I just don't know if Cherry blues can replace my normal M.  I've got two different blue boards now to evaluate, but I'm still 10wpm slower on them.

I had a cheap Aken KVM switch previously which would play nice with any OTG cable Android. The drawback was you had to replug in the OTG cable every time you moved about with your phone, but on the plus side of course you're then free to connect any board you happen to be using. Generally KVM switches treat mouse and keyboards separately so your mouse signal would not carried through the OTG.
Ideally your OTG cable would has a separate USB power input for charging at the same time otherwise you would have to pick between charging and typing.

Good to know.  I actually have spare batteries for my phone, so I just swap them out and put the dead battery in charging.  I never worry about charging since I use another (damaged) phone just for that.
