I got pulled in...
« on: Wed, 30 December 2015, 09:24:51 »
Hey all, new here all the way from Sweden! Been lurking for a few days on here, /r/MK and MD.

Read up as much as i could on mech keyboards and now all i can think about is mech keyboards, my wallet is so done rofl.

Anyways, it all started with a Func KB460 over a year ago in Cherry MX Red, i was gaming alot back then and damn it was good. Before that i had a Microsoft Sidewinder X4.

On black friday i went nuts on a shopping spree, got myself a new mouse, mousemat, headset and ofcourse a new mech keyboard that i couldn't resist because it was so cheap. I ended up with a Logitech G710+ with Cherry MX Brown, at first it felt different from the reds and i wasn't really comfortable. That's when i started reading about MKs and realized that the G710+ had O-rings, i removed those and boy did it feel so much better. Im really happy with them since i never play games anymore and these feel much better to type with.

Anyway, after Christmas came more discounts and i discovered that the Logitech G710 with Cherry MX Blue switches was at the same price as the G710+ and i just couldn't resist. I've tried a MK with blues before and it felt great but since retail price usually is 140-150$ in Sweden and now it was 70$ it felt worth it. The G710 is on the way now i believe and i am so excited!

But there is more to it, or you could say less (in my wallet). So when i was browsing /r/MK my jaw dropped. All these beautiful TKLs and 60% MKs. I just had to get one. So i ended up on MD and joined in on the White Fox, unfortunately not going to get for atleast 6 months but anyhow i got myself one with Cherry MX blue in the True Fox layout.

So yeah, i got pulled in by the force of the MK.

Oh, i also joined in on the recent KC60 drop on MD. Decided to get the KC60 in Cherry MX Green in a white case with the purple dye sub and white leds.

I think i need help :D

Welcome, and hope you enjoy the Greens!  They are my favorite MX switch that I have tried so far but you'll have to get used to the finger workouts it gives you!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Rubber dome keyboards seem to be disposable.  Buy one, use it for a little while, throw it away.  Mechanical keyboards can last you for years, and yes there are hundreds of customisation options from keycap sets, modifier sets, artisan keycaps, cables, cases, switches, numerous different profile keycaps, different keycap materials and so on.

This thread is a good read if you need help preserving what's left of your wallet.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
