So I'm this Danish person...
« on: Thu, 05 May 2016, 05:16:52 »
Hello!

Thought it best to introduce myself to the community before I started posting.

I'm a 30 (turning 31 this month) year old clacker.
I'm relatively new to the whole thing but I've been absorbing all the information surrounding mechanical keyboards as I possibly can for a couple of months now.
I guess my obsession really got turned into overdrive when I discovered Massdrop. I bought my first keycap set (Granite) my first Artisan (Skulltrooper) and my first mech with Gateron switches, which I am typing from now.

During the day I work in IT at a school so mostly dealing with irate teachers complaining about our printing system or the fact that their pc's are slow etc.
During my free time I mostly lurk on GeekHack and r/mechanicalkeyboards and the #mechboards IRC channel. I am also fond of playing video games and expanding my knowledge of technology and the software that runs it. - Currently trying to familiarize myself with Linux again, it's been a couple of years.

I'm kind of a hardcore lurker, I don't often contribute because I don't always know how my input will be recieved, I guess it all boils down to being afraid of looking terribly stupid.

Any way hope to be able to make some meaningful contributions to the forum.
Thank you for reading! :)

Welcome to Geekhack!

Even the more established members say silly things from time to time, so don't worry about that - just join in :)

Which video games do you play?  There's a few threads for different games in off topic.

Massdrop has lots of tempting buys - when you decide you need a new writing implement and get a fountain pen or 12, we have a thread for that too!  (Don't worry, you might not be too badly tempted - I have managed to stop at only 18 fountain pens!)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I am glad that people will be accepting of my stupidity, and if someone can get a laugh that's not too bad either. :))
I am mostly a FPS player, right now I'm playing the Overwatch open beta and Dark Souls III.
Other games currently installed: Darkest Dungeon and Binding of Isaac

Pen's eh? Well that's not a terrible idea I'll definitely check that out!

I've yet to buy a mechanical keyboard but for whatever reason I still post in threads :p

On a more serious note, what keyboard/gateron switches did you decide on?

I ended up with the Varmilo 68% keyboard the VA68M, and I absolutely love it! It has Gateron Brown switches, which I must admit I didn't find terribly interesting to begin with, but they're really growing on me the more I type on it.

This! I so very much hope to be able to tweak my mech in interesting ways!

Welcome, fellow Dane, down the rabbit hole.
Down I go!

Seems like gaterons are the way to go. I've read that mx browns are rather scratchy when compared to other types of switches

Yeah the cherry mx clears I have on the other mech aren't even comparable to Gaterons when it comes to typing smoothness.
So far Gaterons are my favorite switch to type on.
