I need help with plates and cases.
« on: Sun, 10 January 2016, 19:07:56 »
I feel like I'm really misunderstanding something and I need it explained to me.

At BigBlueSaw, https://www.bigbluesaw.com/index.php?option=com_estimator&file=A0A0-A0A0-keyboard-60percent-compromise.inch.dxf&step=20&material=3&thickness=0.06
you can get a plate for at least $92.10.
At Ortholinear keyboards, http://ortholinearkeyboards.com/custom/custom-top-plate
it shows the price being around $55.
Why is it almost half the price? Is it lower quality?

Also, at http://builder.swillkb.com/
it has a Sandwich style case. Does this mean I don't have to get a case for it?
Also, about cases, how do people make them? How would I design one? Who would I go to make one for me?

Also, when ortholinearkeyboards "Bottom Plate + Hardware + $20" what is the hardware they're talking about?

It's cheaper for Ortholinear because it's mass-produced, you're asking BBS to make you one plate. It also depends on the size as well, a 40% plate requires less material than say a TKL plate so it will obviously be cheaper(I'm not sure what size you want).

Oh. So OrtholinearKeyboards won't actually make a plate that hasn't been produced before? That makes sense.

They most likely just order in bulk, buying 100 units would be a lot cheaper per unit than buying 10.
