Obin "Anne Pro" dual wired / bluetooth 60% mech
« on: Wed, 13 January 2016, 04:12:06 »
In my incessant quest to find the perfect dual wired / wireless mechs, I came across this:

http://z.jd.com/project/details/34676.html#head_top

From what I can gather, this is a Chinese kickstarter type of crowdfunding platform, and Obin is the manufacturer and promising two versions of a 60% mech. The "Anne" standard is wired and the "Anne Pro" is dual wired / bluetooth wireless. If I focus on the Anne Pro, they are saying that it will be full RGB with double shot PBT caps and is supports programmable function layers and LEDs. Appears to come with Gateron red and blue switches as well as a lifetime guarantee. The costs listed on the site are referring to crowdfunding tiered rewards but I suspect the final street price should be less than around USD 60. Seems a little too good to be true, but even if I take all the marketing at a discount as well as add in a general concession to my expected reliability of China based brands, I would probably be interested in sourcing one from Taobao once the inventory hits the market.
The alternative at this price point is the Royal Kludge RK-61 that was on massdrop earlier and you should be able to source from Taobao sellers at less than USD 40 a pop excluding shipping but overall is weaker in features in almost every aspect.

Both of these have the advantage of being in the non-eyebrow raising price points from significant others.

What do you think about the Obin Anne? Has anyone had any experience with the RK-61? General feedback seems ok although there seems to be some reports of both the wired and bluetooth connection being unstable.

really? noone's interested in bluetooth mechs at all even after Ripster has picked up on this post and posted under a flashy title under /MK  :p

I'm not sure if I am the norm or exception, but I have found myself increasingly using smartphone and tablets for work and personal. to the point that I don't really mind the specs on my workstation / laptops that much anymore, but would be willing to pay for newer mobile devices / accessories for them. Out of curiousty, do people feel that wireless mechs is an eventual evolution or does the concept not sit quite right with the pursts?

I'm definitely interested but plan to wait until it's actually a product. You're right that it sounds too good to be true at it's current price point.

Kickstarter is risky enough. A Chinese kickstarter sounds terrifying.

Yeah pretty much this.  Good luck; I hope you are able to get one!

Weird. I know a girl who has been calling herself "Obi Anne" on the Internet since '98.

Should I get her one of these?  :))

I don't understand bluetooth on a mech and do you really need a kick starter to make a keyboard?

I've been studying electronics this whole week and looked into designing and producing a pcb and the cost is not that high. Especially since this kick starter is in china he should have trouble finding someone to produce the electronic parts.

i'd love to see more keyboards with dual wired/bluetooth capabilities - it's honestly a damn shame that a bluetooth device often cannot be plugged into a computer to be charged and used at the same time. granted, i don't know much about bluetooth, but i don't see why it's such a hard thing to implement...
Let's get this straight. There is nothing cool about keyboards we're all lame as fk.

Id love to have a bluetooth mech at an affordable price to use with a tablet, or i guess i should say i would love the option, even though it isn't necessarily a product i would need.

I'm on the full size Filco Convertible at work, so not much portability and its plugged in 24/7 anyway and uses USB for power. I mainly use it to switch between phones and tablets on my desk. With a 60% though you'd expect to at least use it around the house if not take it with you so the charging bit becomes more important. If you can believe the Chinese marketing they're saying this new one still charge through USB into a 1000mah battery and last 10 hours with lighting and multiple weeks without. But with Chinese batteries I almost wish they'd just let me use AAs....
