Pixel Art PCB?
« on: Wed, 20 January 2016, 11:39:04 »
Hey guys, I was just thinking about an image that I saw a while ago. I didn't save it and I can't find it for the life of me, but basically it was a keyboard PCB with a scene printed on it (I think it was pixel art or something from a game). Something a little different than the green we usually see. Was really thinking about making a build with something like this.

Just wondering if anyone knows what I'm talking about and where to get them (if they are at all available).

Thanks.

Never really thought about it, but I do put pictures on my own boards.  I did a quick search and found this... it's pretty nice:

I haven't ever seen multi-color PCB silkscreen (on the same board), but that doesn't mean it isn't possible).  It's not a highly detailed process, from what I've seen.  What might be interesting to try is to get a full color vinyl sticker printed, then using the solder mask layer from the PCB, have the sticker laser cut to remove spaces for the pads.  You could then apply the sticker to the PCB without messing up any of the solder pads.

Close, but not exactly what you're looking for I'm sure.

Wow that looks awesome. Even a small design looks really good but I was definitely thinking of the whole PCB.

And you know what, the picture I had in mind may have just been a vinyl sticker! Hadn't thought of that. I really wish I could remember more vividly what I'm talking about.

:P I thought we did this keyboard thing for ourselves.

Hmm pretty interesting but yeah, not quite what I was thinking. regack got me thinking that it may have just been a sticker...
