QFR with MX greens.

Hello everyone, this is my first post but I've been lurking for 2 months now. Anyway my question is; Should i get QFR greens? They are 73 dollars on Amazon right now. I have a Rantopad MXX gateron red keyboard and I LOVE it, it feels butter smooth after using mx blacks for 2 years. But i want to try something clicky-clacky for the first time. Do you feel like QFR greens would be a good choice?


As i said, this is my first post and my english is not that great. So I apologize in advance if I made any mistakes.


Update--- I got the QFR MX green and I can confidently say that I like it. Keys are not rattly like on my Gateron Red board. Stabs feel natural and overall build quality is OK. Jumped from like 65 wpm average to 83. Next board I'm gonna try is either BTC with dome sliders or a Topre board.

Like Moistgun, I run on ancient gear, probably because I am just an old curmudgeon myself, but the <$75 QFR with green Cherry switches is an excellent choice for a standard, clean, modern keyboard that will work great straight out of the box, with a warranty, and not give you any problems.

I would LOVE to buy an Alps clicky keyboard as everyone praises them, but honestly they are very hard to find. Even if I do find one by a miracle, it probably won't ship to my country. So I'm basically stuck with modern keyboards. I did some resarch and found that a lot of people liked MX greens. It's obviously not going to be better than a buckling spring/Alps but I just want to know if it was worth it or not. Thanks for the response I appreciate it :thumb:

I can totally understand those limitations.
I like using greens over blues if that helps.

Overall as far as mx goes, im a linear fan.

I have a QFS with MX greens (although the stealth bit is moot since I swapped keycaps).

It's rock solid, reasonably smooth, and hasn't missed beat in several years (considering that I got it secondhand too).

This post is also typed on my QFR with MX blacks, which is even older than the QFS, and also hasn't missed  beat.

For keyboards in this price range I think it's a great board. The only thing that could beat it is a Filco, which does not come in MX Greens, and usually costs more.

I found a QFR for 59 euro here, with italian layout, black switch...like new condition. Is it worth?
Can I just replace keycaps with a UK ISO set right? And maybe color the case, bcs I hate that grey/silver.
Is it easy to disassemble and rebuilt without doing damage? I never disassemble a keyboard  ;D

Thanks for the response. And how do you feel abou the MX greens as a "clicky" switch? How do they compare against their gateron counterpart? I saw a gateron blue/green board on sale on massdrop. I am really confused since i didn't try ANY clicky switches.

One more thing; do you think keyswitch testers are generally "worth" it? I know its not gonna give me the full keyboard experience but I saw the CM keyswitch tester was on sale and it even has their topre switches. Can they help me decide? 'Cause I'm really confused and don't know what to buy. Thanks again for responding.

Wow, I actually didn't hear a single bad thing about QFR so far. I really am leaning towards it. But I just can't decide on switches. -MX Greens; people do say bad things about them, generally saying that they are unnecesarily stiff blues.
-Topre; It is expensive and I can not afford them.
-Gateron blues; people say they are smoother than their mx counterparts but not that much better than cherry. (this is correct for their linear switches but I didn't have any experience with a clicky one). And their actuation point is higher than their mx counterparts.

MX greens are like pleasantly stiff blues :p

You won't get a QFR with Topre switches, but you can get a Novatouch with Topre switches that are compatible with MX-style keycaps.

Gateron switches I have not used, but most people seem to like them.

I also got one of these, presumably from the same supplier, for the $73~ price. 

I think it is a great board for that price, especially considering that when I've seen it come up in other places in the past year, such as massdrop, it would appear for $20 higher in price due to the green switches. The green switch variety was actually the cheapest variety up on amazon when I was shopping,.. probably for a reason (most people don't want it), but.. good for me as it is exactly what I've been wanting for a while now.

It is a strong board, with no noticeable flex if trying to give it a twist/bend.

The keycaps are terrible, but easily replaced. The pad printing is annoyingly thick and easily felt under the fingers.

The greens are certainly a stiff switch, but if one might be coming from something like a buckling spring board the actuation point doesn't feel *that* much different, though bottoming out is noticeably more stiff on a green switch. They might not feel comfortable to someone who is only used to a short traveling laptop keyboard.

Would buy again.

I was typing with my Gateron Reds, butter smooth-super light but a LOT of typos. Now I type like a caveman but I make very little mistakes.  ^-^. Although I get fatigued a lot faster than on my gateron red board.
