B.Face X2 - Lock LEDs question
« on: Tue, 26 January 2016, 07:04:20 »
A question for you skilled gentlemen.
I own a B.Face X2 PCB and I noticed there are three pair of pads for lock LEDs next to the spacebar(s) switch holes.

In the blurred side of the picture.

Now, you would agree it's a sorry spot for a LED, so, my question is if it was possible to physically re-route those LEDs to a different location, say to the LED pads of the upper-right most switch.

The one next to the USB connector

If so, how should I proceed?

I think you won't be able to use the LED Pads of one of the switches. If you've got a place to mount the LED's, you would just solder two wires to the Pads for the Lock LED's and solder the LED to the end of it. You can than place the LED wherever you want. You'd have to implement some sort of mounting inside your case though.

If you really wanted to use one of the switch LED's Pads for that, you yould break the lanes right at the LED's solder pad on the PCB (with a exacto knife or Screwdriver cutting through the lane). After that just use a jumper wire from the Lock LED's socket to the switches LED Pad and wire the jumper wire together with the LED at the switches pads. That way the switches LED pads are only used as a "mounting spot" and the electrical connection is jumpered to the "proper" position for the LED on the board.

Sounds more complicated than it really is  :))

I thought of that. I'll try putting a LED in a switch with bent legs so they don't touch the pads and wire them to the Numlock pad. The only problem is that pad doesn't come with the resistor soldered in.

FYI, you can make the in switch LEDs of 3 keys be the NCS indicators.

(search for "full LED"). Not sure if that gets you what you wanted, but its another option.

That's should be exactly what I need. Thanks for that.
