So... I want a realforce 87u to go with my realforce numpad - should I get 55g keys or 45g to match the numpad? and should I get silent or normal? Or should I just not buy another keyboard (I have too many! ..... like 15 high end keyboards). Will I notice the difference between typing on a 55g key and then using the 45g numpad (because that would drive me insane I think...). Please help me spend this money (or not.). I just really REALLY want the ultimate peripheral setup  (I currently use a clearly superior tracball +custom buttons, the realforce numpad, and a GON crystal (mx whites) lubed with white pom keycaps). If you guys have other ideas? HHKB? or anything let me know! Money is not an issue - find me the best setup possible. Thanks!

feearrrrr meeeee. rawr?

(I've been awake for 4 days - programming deadlines you know. I'm on my 5th pot of coffee. Sorry!!)

omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg gogogogogogoogog - I'm waiting for it to compile i'm technically still working!!!!

Did I say thanks? Thanks!!!!!

P.S. If we can't come to an agreement I will just have to buy everything. You have 24 hours to comply. failure to do so will result in me posting pictures of all my packages as they arrive and then unboxing them and trying to find space for them inside this room.

P.S.S I don't have anymore room for them.

P.S.S.S My cat uses my old GON as a bed - it's the decoy keyboard and it's covered in fur.

Whatever you do man just please go to sleep. No deadline is worth the effect on your health/psyche of 4 straight all-nighters.

 I think you need more sleep and not coffee. You might even be able to make a clear decision on which keyboard you want after you wake up!  :thumb:

On a more keyboard-related note, I've tried both the 55g Realforce and the 45g Realforce. I purchased and tried the 55g Realforce first for two weeks, but although I liked it, it was too fatiguing on my small hands/fingers (My hands flat on the keyboard are shorter than the width of the Realforce). And yes, at least for me, the 55g was noticeably different compared to the 45g Realforce Numpad I also use.

I bought the 45g Realforce and love it so far. I was worried that the 45g might be too light based on reviews that I've read, but I think it's fine for me. I won't lie though, I like to rest my hands on the keyboard and even my light hands have accidentally pressed down keys on the 45g. For example, when I'm reading text, I'll have my fingers over Page Up/Down. I've pressed Page Down unintentionally several times and I have to Page Up to where I was before, sometimes even losing my place on where I was reading. For me, it's not too big of a deal since my liking of how typing on the 45g feels outweighs that negative. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, but it's still something to consider. Now I'm just trying to give a new home to this Realforce 55g because even though it wasn't a match for me, it's still a great keyboard. If my hands didn't fatigue easily, I'd probably choose the 55g > 45g.

If money is not an issue, buy a 55g AND a Silent (which only comes in variable weight). Then open both up, unscrew the plate with switches from the PCB and swap the silent plate over the 55g domes.

That's what I did, and that's the best Realforce experience I've had so far. Silent sliders make the 55g feel a little bit lighter, probably between 45g and stock 55g, but that might be subjective.

You might want to do the same, but seap silent onto 45g instead of 55g, though, if you are worried about the weight. Also, the same can be achieved using topre silencing rings from Hypersphere, but more work and you will have to wait for a groyp buy or be lucky to find them somewhere to purchase.

EDIT:
Also, I still think the best Topre experience in general is HHKB, but I can't live without F keys, arrow cluster, and home/end. If you can, go for it.
Also, also, typing on a phone sucks, look at all those typos above lol :P

Personally, I find the 55g ones to be extremely uncomfortable, whereas the 45g ones are usable, just uninspiring.

YMMV.

1. Buy keyboard
2. Test keyboard
3. If you like it - keep it
If you don't like it - sell it
4. Buy another keyboard
5. Repeat
6. Profit

I've got a realforce 87u 55g and a 45g, and a variable weight 87u, and a silenced 104u, a US HHKB 2, a JP HHKB on the way. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll probably just end up keeping them all idk. Gonna make some wall mounts for them in the mean time. Thanks for the help.

Did you seriously just drop roughly $1500 on keyboards in one day just to see which one you like the best?   :))

Getting both of those HHKBs seems a bit redundant since they should feel identical anyways.

Definitely keep up posted.  Im not sure there are many people willing to do what you just did...

Personally, I find the RF 55g a bit stiff for extended typing. Still a great keyboard, but I prefer my RF variable or my 45g HHKB. I have all three and use them all.

Just get both.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
