Model M buckling spring without keycaps ?
« on: Thu, 24 December 2009, 16:34:39 »
I was looking at this ebay auction of a Model M spacesaver, and from the picture:

It seems that that buckling spring goes straight to the key without a keycap. Anyone has any of those ? Do they feel different compared to the Model Ms with keycaps ?

BTW, I just looked at the wikipedia article for the Model Ms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M) and they have gutted it - the big table containing all the info for based on each model's number is gone.

Anyone has links to where we could find that info. I'm interested in a table where it shows Model M number, with info whether it has keycaps or not, whether it's rubber dome or buckling spring etc.

Cheers

Many a long discussion has been had over the single vs double piece keycap. Reality is that there's no difference in terms of how it feels. The keycap might be slightly heavier, but that's not really tangible during normal use.

I'm thinking I should dig that table out their history and park it into the IBM Wiki. Check the link in my sig for the extended history and guide to common part numbers. The old Keyboard reference thread in the wiki has a number of model numbers covered that the IBM Wiki doesn't have right now.

thanks ch_123.... awesome link to the wiki page with the M models... didn't know that all these different versions existed. Your article makes the wikipedia article look sparse !

The IBM Wiki has a much more enlightened system than this peer reviewed with citations thingy - screenshot or it didn't happen.
