Received my Ducky Realforce today, life wish fulfilled (pics)
« on: Fri, 19 February 2016, 19:07:58 »
It's XF140S (104UB-KB45S), sold in Taiwan, but I bought it online in the US.

For years I've been waiting for an all 45g silenced Topre to come out, and today my life is complete. SA010S (108UH-S) used to be the only option, but it's in Japanese layout so I refrained for 3 years(proof https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=43164.msg878731#msg878731), and it finally payed off. This new one is in full size and in nice color, I couldn't wish for better.

It took them so long though, I just don't understand why they made so few silenced models.

I've been eyeing this (and the thread https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=77589.0), where did you buy yours from?

What's the case like compared to other Topre keyboards if you can compare?

Just a small note - the model you have stated is actually the Leopold version that I have with blue/grey keycaps - 104UB-KB45S / XF140S. It comes with no additional accessories.

Your Ducky, as in the picture is the XF01RS / 104UB-DK45S, and has the white keycaps, and comes with the additional accessories you have pictured (keycap puller, red caps) :). It is otherwise the exact same board - made by Topre, distributed by either Ducky or Leopold.

It's fantastic, but 4 years of TKL has trained me to not use the tenkeypad, so it goes unused  :)). I will probably be getting the 30G Ducky version (104UB-DK30S) at some point in the future to compare and contrast how superlight Topre is.

Enjoy your new purchase!

I got it from mechanicalkeyboards.com(Mod please edit for me if it's not ok to say).

The only other one I had was a 87UB and I sold it long ago so I don't have something on hand to compare, but it feels solid. Won't wring or bend or dent if you try. Not extremely heavy but quite heavy, and it says Made in Japan, so it may be made by Realforce, not by Ducky. One thing might bother you though - if you put your fingernails between the upper and lower case on the short edges (to the left of Tab and right of numpad) and try to force them apart, you can get a gap, not wide enough to put in a credit card but wide enough to put in a needle. The reason is that the frames of the UPPER case are slim and pliable on these two edges. But it's irrelevant if you just use the keyboard to type. The long edges don't have this problem, probably buckled together on the long edges.

Not a big issue for me but will keep in mind.

Thanks for the answer m8, time to put a dent in my wallet after payday  :thumb:

Hope they put this out in a tkl option. Does this have pbt caps like the other topre boards (minus novatouch)?

The "Made in Japan" part is correct. It's made by Topre (Realforce) just like the other Realforce boards.

It just happens to be distributed by Ducky in China/Taiwan, and Mechanicalkeyboards already has a partnership with Ducky to sell their product in North America :).

Same deal with the Leopold version - they distribute it in Korea on behalf of Topre.

this is the exact thing that occurred to me. I would jump all over that board in a quick second. Really love TKL.

Yes it does. If you look at the pic of the back of the box, it says PBT there.

Wow, that is a really nice board. Give me a TKL version with 55g domes and some grey modifiers and that's my end game right there.

Come on Topre start selling those caps separately!

Couldn't this be said about pretty much all stock boards though?  Ease up party pooper.  All silenced 45g (HHKB disqualified because of spacebar lulz), full sized, in English layout.

I actually really like those white ducky keycaps. I hope ducky considers selling the caps by themselves.
