FS: Macally MK-96 and 2-port ADB->USB converter
« on: Sat, 28 November 2009, 13:03:37 »
Hey guys, I seem to have a really hard time making posts lately, I can't put anything in the classified (they dont show up), and I thought i posted here but it didn't show up. This is my last try anyway :\

I hope it's ok, like i said i couldn't post in the classified section :(

I bought awhile ago a Macally MK-96 from xsphat on here (notice the xsphat spelling on the F1-F6 keys) and the adb->usb converter. I cleaned the keys because of the yellowness (and they are still a bit yellow, but much harder to notice - the flash really exaggerated it) I didn't use it long because of how loud it was (white fake alps), i do really love the feel of the keys tho, although I have a cherry blue m10 now and am seeking to get a filco with cherry browns (also so i can carry it around easier, and not make so much noise when i type). I'm back online (i havent been in the market for awhile so i've been off, but now i'm looking for a filco again)

Anyway, this works perfect when using the converter, layout is a bit funny (see pictures) - the white switch isn't for gaming anyway, but i wouldnt recommend the layout for gaming (unless all you need it wasd, not the arrow keys). I'd say if you like the white switch this is a cheap option* (or if you want to try a white switch), i used it under windows and linux without problems.

Does the $30 include the ADB-USB adapter?
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Yeah $30 includes the adb adapter

I'd also trade for a brown cherry board (and some cash too if applicable :P) - ultimately i'm planning on getting a filco brown tenkeyless

I still can't figure out the classifieds :\ I tried it again and made sure the publish time was set for like 10 minutes later (i dont see an immediate publish option or anything)

Then I set it all up and clicked save, it uploaded everything then it redirected to the classifieds page and I came back later and it wasnt there, there's no trace of the ad in "my classifieds" or anything either :\

Great deal, the ADB-USB converter itself is worth the asking price.

IIRC xsphat replaced most of the keycaps with those form a Northgate 'board, that's why they're yellowed.

Ahh yes i remember now :) He had pictures of the northgate key caps versus the macally ones, the northgate's being much more plastic and dually molded or something crazy like that.

*edit*
Here it is! Also xsphat's review of the keyboard.

It is a VERY loud clicky keyboard :D

Tell you what, if the buyer would like, they can have it shipped to me, I'll sign it and ship it to them. The first true piece of GH history. How's that for an ego? Personally, I'd rather have a signed pic of webwit's basement torture chamber, but that's just me.

I need someone to buy this because then it gives me $30 more of an excuse to buy the filco brown cherry board :P (I want to buy it now, but they are a bit expensive for a key that i've never tried, although I'm sure i'd like them - these blues are starting to get old, plus I don't like being able to twist this scorpius with my bare hands)

Figured out how to get the ad into the classifieds, for some reason it won't let me attach pictures (maybe it's my browser? but it didn't work in firefox either) - when I attached the pictures it uploaded 100%, then refreshed to the classifieds page with nothing - then when i made the post w.o the pictures it gave me the option to publish it, and I tried to edit the post to add the pictures - and it did the same thing on the edit and the original ad was still up.

Kinda funky ;)

For anyone interested, it is still available - a much cheaper option and has the same switches as the filco zero (for much cheaper)

I can trade it for something too maybe
