Hi, this is the first forum that I've signed up to try to actually participate in!

I got into mechs probably 5 or more years ago while I was in Korea. My friend had picked up a Filco Majestouch 2 in MX Blues while another bought another board (forgot name) in Blacks. I loved how much quieter it was and ended up picking up a Leopold FC500R in Blacks. At the time I didn't know there GH or any other forums existed to the dedication of mechanicals, and I was perfectly content. I ended up picking up a TKL (700 or750, can't remember now), but shortly after I moved back to SoCal and with the move and life lost track of it.

Recently I've been wanting a little more desk space at home and after browsing around for some TKL's I found a link to /mechanicalkeyboards. I picked up Reddit a couple years back as a light user but never really got too deep outside FP and with the discovery of that sub I became obsessed with them all over again. That sub lead me to /mechmarket, Massdrop, and of course GH among others. I've been inhaling all the information on these boards and felt the need to say thanks for all the information people have put out there.

Currently I'm a bit overwhelmed as I want to do everything related to anything on this sub, and it's been a wild ride! I ended up ordering a Planck from MD with Zealios with no experience with the switch or soldering, got in on IMSTO's White/Beige in Hangul because I miss having Korean lettering on just my FC500R and enjoyed the color scheme better than what's on Originative atm, ordered a couple of sets from PMK, and thinking about getting a winkeyless b.pad x2 for the GF(accountant who travels for field exams but uses a $6 numpad, yuk), etc, etc. I even managed to swing by the SoCal meet on Reddit to play with everyone's awesome gear!

As I type I just realized I've gotten completely sidetracked on my original quest for a smaller keyboard so I'm going to have to get a Pok3r or another 60% to fulfill my original quest for a smaller board.

Anyway~, just wanted to say hi and I hope to see you guys around for a long time!

P.S. Yesterday I discovered ETF's thread on Making Stuff Together and have gone insane. Not having those Fugu's keep me up at night. I wonder how difficult it would be to make my own (keycaps, not Fugus)...

Looks like you're ready to jump in with both feet.  This place isn't called WalletHack for nothing ;)

Have you found your favourite switch yet (given that there are dozens of switches you haven't tried)?

Tell me about it! The $$$ adds up so quick it's shocking! I jumped in on LeandreN's 60% kit yesterday so obviously I had to buy the Gateron switches on MD today to pair with...lol it's a sick cycle.

I don't think I've nearly had enough exposure to all the keys out there to declare a favorite. I'm used to my MX Blacks and have some time on Reds and Blues. My preference has definitely been linears but I'm trying to expand my palette. I'm looking forward to playing with the Zealios on the Planck and picked up Gateron Clears(for GF, who likes using my Blacks but say they are kind of heavy) and Greens for fun today. Didn't realize that Zealios are 5 times more expensive than Gaterons though! I've always known about Topre's but back when I first got my mechanical, Topre boards were going for $300+ and I couldn't justify the pricing. Since the pricing is more reasonable now and I'm pretty comfortable financially I'll probably give them a try with all the hype I've been hearing since day 1. Do you have any opinions between the HHKB or FC660C's? I'm more biased towards Leopold's as they've served me so well in the past. That and my brother is currently in Korea and I may be able to coax him into buying me one just because...And I haven't even scratched the surface about Matias and Alps switches but I think I'll probably hold off on those until I get through all of this stuff!

You haven't mentioned buckling spring keyboards yet ;)

Between HHKB and FC660C, most people seem to prefer HHKB for feel, sound and layout.  The FC660C has dedicated arrows (if you find you can't get along without them) and those two extra keys in the top right that most people put artisan keycaps on, but the HHKB JP layout also has dedicated arrows (and a teeny tiny space bar).

There seems to be many more people on GH with HHKB than there is with FC660C, or maybe it is just that those with HHKB tend to post them more :))
